If you have the time, leveling all the crafting classes to 10 is ideal because it gives you a great number of abilities with varying uses. If you don't want to spend that much time on other crafting classes, Alchemist's Preserve is easily the best out of the level 10 ones, followed by the Blacksmith and Carpenter ones, as suggested. These abilities will make leveling up a lot easier as they can help reduce the difficulty of synths.

Preserve makes the next 3 or 4 actions (depending on what you are making) always have a white orb. White orb maximizes your success rate with actions.

Blacksmith's Maker's Muse makes the next 3 or 4 actions have increased success with "Standard Synthesis". Since it's the action that succeeds the most often and the one you will be using the most, having a higher chance of success helps.

Carpenter's Tender Touch reduces the amount of durability you lose for the next 3 or 4 actions. It's useful for higher level recipes.

Tymora also suggested Leatherworker's Fulfillment, which increases the chance of success for the next 3 or 4 actions. It's nice as well, but it doesn't seem to help as much as Maker's Muse or the other specialized success boosts do.

Also, don't forget to use crafting gear. Try to find a balance of Craftsmanship, Magical Craftsmanship, and Control. Gear and keeping your tools up to date will make a dramatic difference in the difficulty of recipes.
