I think they should do kind of what WoW did with this. Some players had mounts that carried around merchants, and blacksmiths who could be summoned before a raid fight or boss. They also had these repair bots people in engineering could build and summon anywhere in the game. That would certainly help if you're in a group that might be learning or struggling with an instance so instead of having to abandon they could summon a repair bot, and keep fighting on.

I would love this. I can't count the number of times I've had someone have a "Doh" moment in a dungeon and gear breaks and I said "Man I'm a crafter. I wish I could fix that for you".

Good ol' Version 1.0 days. Yep. We could do that back then. We could also have player bazaars too.

It wouldn't be about the money anymore, since you made a decent profit off of it back then. Just the convenience of a mid raid repair for others.

I recall Yoshi once said that all the necessary tools for this feature are within the system but they didn't want to add it. I forgot what the reason was, but I think it was because they felt it would deter players from leveling their own crafters.

I have all my crafts leveled to 60+ and heading to 70. I always carry dark matter with me to repair on the go. I think being able to repair other's gear is a great idea and should be a thing as soon as possible.

Yep, mine are in the 50s atm, but getting them all to 70. I'd love to be able to repair. Just carry a stack of 99 dark matter with me at all times.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I got all of them at 70, also carrying dark matter. If anything, repairing people's gear in dungeons should require a fixed amount of gil based on the repair cost from NPCs. But that money won't get transfered to the player, to avoid any kind of exploit. This way, you won't use your dark matter and people that forgot to get theirs will still be able to repair under extreme circunstances.

This would be amazing especially in 24 man raids

Although I would like this to be an option, I gotta say that players should really pay attention to their gear anyway. I mean unless you have been constantly grinding dungeons/trials your gear never be in such urgent need to be repaired by another player anyway (at least in an instance environment). I'd still welcome it but I just hope it doesn't make some players be lazy and think there will be someone else to repair if they themself don't.
