There are many ways to beat the content, but no one knows about them because the playerbase sees how the Japanese or BG does content and sticks to that, AoE damage (with the new actions) GLA uses thier AoE def+, melee come geared for the occasion.

Magic damage restrictions doesnt make mages useless, they heal or buff.

I remember in FFXI, (I know dropping the FFXI card) we went to dyna and mobs would spam AoEs and guess what we meleed, with everyone on the same mob, we didnt say RNG onry so your out of AoE.

DH can be meleed, I was doing it a few hours ago, but people dont want to.

I see MRD and PUG at ifrit, so no there isnt one way to do it, you just need smart players that can adapt to the situations.

It's not that it can't be done with other setups, it's that it's exceedingly easy with some classes or exceedingly hard with some other classes.

Good design and balance would be so that you can grab any tank, and combination of DPS, and any combination of healers and get it done. There should never be a situation where using 1x tank X, 4x DPS Z, and 3x healer Y is much much easier than using 1x any tank, 4x any DPS and 3x any healer.

They're not doing it that way to mimic BG, they're doing it that way because it is the easiest way to do it. No one's going to intentionally make a fight harder for themselves if they don't have to. It is objectively easier to beat Ifrit using lancers as DD. That's really the only thing at play here.

    This.

Perfect balance will never be achieved, there will always be a method better than any other.

Just find people who enjoy the challenge to go without the most effective setup.
