And rule 1 in pvp is: no matter how f good u are, there is always someone stronger than you, means you'll be defeated anyway, fun ain't it? :d

The thing is I want to raid and do plan on it but I am a bit worried , simply because the lack of tolerance in this game on the harder content is just bad to me. Like so many people leave are prob disconnect on purpose, like its just messed up and I have a feeling it would be worse trying to raid. Like vet players that have been playing for years look at everyone through that same lense, Im a mentor in the novice net work and news flash its new players everyday that come to the game. So if you want the community to grow tolerance is needed otherwise people will always be bad because they arent even given the chance to run stuff enough to gain memory of the fights and things in the fights. Like I dono what happen when hw hit but when I read guides from a year ago all I see is people talk about how hard for instance aurum vale was or high challenging titan or ifrit extreme was, but yet now if its half new people in the group you die once and then people start leaving. Thats the wrong attitude to me and its not creating an environment for people to get better are to wana deal with people with a lack of tolerance in raid groups.

I personally think it depends on different scenarios. If you join a PF on fresh practise party, MOST people tolerate more mistakes. If you join a PF that requires you to have some experience, you bet people will get frustrated when that guy keeps failing early. It looks way dumber when you keep failing the same mechanic over and over as if you just ram your head in without analysis. Most people are also under this assumption: "once I reach a phase, I know what to do" which very often is wrong, then you still fail to reliably get through certain phases that you claim to have passed through.

Ultimately when you intend to raid, I strongly believe that basic stuff like basic DPS rotation and mechanics execution need to be good enough or you just remain to be a liability.

But of course, most people who play this game are not too interested in raiding due to their own reasons or other factors, that I understand too BUT generally speaking harder contents requires better players to play and TBH this mmo is the only one I know so far that has a very flimsy take on DPS parser. We raiders are walking in a grey line in-between just because yoship doesn't encourage BUT openly admits it's a tool for us raiders which is just weird.

Either way, motivation as a whole is a fickle one from what I can gather so far. I wonder if SE will just keep rolling the same format for raid content because when difficulty goes up and up (normally ideal for mmos), people tend to just lose their will to even continue.

I was a hardcore raider back in EverQuest. I had my every gaming moment decided for me. I knew what quests I had to do and where I had to farm for gear. I was very dedicated and very good at what I did. But I don't want that any longer. I enjoy logging in and deciding on the fly if I'm going to spend the night doing PotD or join a random farm party. I helped a bunch of people get the bird in Bismarck tonight (which I already have) just because I saw in PF that they needed a healer. I only want to be obligated to myself and I promised myself I would never get into another situation where the choice was out of my hands. And you *had* to play that way in both EQ and EQII because there was always a ceiling where pure solo/group play stopped. I love FFXIV because I can still do a lot at 60 without having to delve into raiding. It's there if I ever wanted to. But the game doesn't force me that way to progress. If it ever did, then I would find something else to play.

I raid when forced to for story content completion, stuff like Alex items when I needed them, my pony, VA for turn-ins, etc. Otherwise I gather, craft and mainly do POTD for scripts and Lore period. I am used to WoW and swtor raiding and do not like all the crap on the ground every 5 secs nor small platform raiding. I also don't like the way many act in pug raids with new people, no time for their BS. Just my pref, we are all different. Occasionally my FC forces me into a HM or Ex primal but under duress hehe.

I agree with what Talera above me says, no one is going to force me to raid 4x a week in a static group like I did in other games. As it is, when story line forces me to raid it angers me but I eventually get it done once only and never go again. BTW, been in game about 9 months and my IL is 258 WITHOUT constant hard raids so it can be done pretty easily. All crafters/gathers are L 60 and geared and I have an awesome house. If it changes, I am outie

I'm an older player, and I find the high levels of play demanded in raids difficult. Not impossible - I cleared a lot of Coils and very much enjoyed it. But I raided with a group of friends who understand that it takes me several runs to learn a fight (and also that there are some mechanics I'm probably never going to master, like divebombs in T9, because at my advanced age I just don't have the reaction time. If I ever managed them flawlessly, it was a sheer fluke, I promise. But T5 and T9 were both fun, if frustrating, because I had a group of supportive folks with me who never made me feel like I was holding us back. Sadly we mostly quit about 12 months ago, most are back recently, but not interested in raiding because Alex is nowhere near Coil story wise, and we have encountered too many selfish and rude people who start ranting as soon as they realise there's someone new to the fight there. Doesn't make anyone want to go out and rush to sign up to PF Groups. I'm sure there are many lovely, kind, decent hard-raiders out there, but sadly I never encountered any of them. So I'll stick to levelling different things, doing MSQ, AAand redorating my apartment ....

Same experience as an older player Elladie but I was run through all of coils except for the very last one in an evening so fast that I barely recall it hehe. I didn't die so I guess I was lucky, I just held my breath, paid attention and relied on 16 yrs of raid experience in other games to get me through lol.

Pros: improves your skill, get gear.

Cons: static group commitments, tolerating sociopathic gearhead parse dbags, "must already know entire fight" join requirements, and a tired irrelevant loot rolling system with weekly lockouts.

And then on top of all of those, the game gives you multiple alternative paths to get gear that are "good enough" but without having to put up with most of the raiding jerkitudes and lockouts.

Sure seems like raids are treated like PVP at this point. A tacked-on niche from fear of people un-subbing. Its days are numbered.
