accident double post.
Yes I think they should abolish the class system and in all honesty I can see that happening somewhere down the road eventually.
Yoshi-p please give us a FFT style job system.
Make the job system 100% unique with no cross class skills.
I honest to gods/deities prey that the class identity changes have only just barely begun because in the current build of the game I just don't see or feel it. At all. I just recently leveled my lnc and it feels like a carbon copy of my mrd even though they're at completely different levels. My previous pre AA char was a 50 pug but other than not pressing 1 there isn't any noticeable difference to speak of. My hope is that they'll introduce a lot of new questable class specific skills that will have less abstract purposes and better animations and effects. I don't think the meaning of so many classes can come through just stat tweaks at this point. And we're about to enter the job developement era too. I hope the wheels are fixed before the shiny tassels are attached.
Can you post the link to that quote? I have been looking for it for days.As much as I enjoyed the armory system, after what they've presented for changes to classes I think this is the best choice they could make. I have not played any melee classes, but from the standpoint of the Disciples of Magic I feel as if they crossed the line on changes, if only because I've apparently misinterpreted what Yoshi-P himself said.
Call me crazy, but the removal and exchange of so many skills between the two mage classes present certainly seem to both be major changes and alternations to the fundamentals of both.
As stated, action points have been removed, more exclusive traits and abilities have been put in place, and the amount that can be used as cross-skills have been reduced. As I've said several times in other places, while the Jobs were created for the specialized roles that people desired so greatly, the classes have already become specialized in the process making the whole thing redundant (at least in my opinion).
The system at this point looks like its going to just get more convoluted and more complicated than necessary. Having just jobs would make things much easier, and I'm sure not enough people would care since everyone was screaming for individuality in the first place.
Yoshida has completely back tracked on his word. He has torn the class system apart and none of the classes even remotely resemble what they once were. I'm sick of people defending his actions while denying that he ever said this. He talks about earning back the fans trust but throws out massive lies like this into the community..
Oh boy another Neptune thread
Note that I didn't say request in the title. This is a serious proposal with effects that would be wide ranging and irreversible.
Anyways, we need to wait and see how exactly Jobs will be restricted before we cry for classes to disappear. Being able to use out-of-class actions is a pretty big deal consdering currently a great deal of what you use on your bar probably comes from other classes.
Focusing what a class learns makes it easier to figure out what you have to level in order to get certain sets of abilities. With the changes if you want damage mitigation, you level GLA, if you want Healing, you level CNJ, etc. Currently you have to level multiple classes and in the end most of your classes probably have the exact same action bar setup except for the class's exclusive weapon skill.
Also don't forget that there are still more classes in the pipeline that are bound to have much different functions than the ones we have currently that could open up what you can do in solo/lowman situations with your class.
Edit: And Yoshida has not backed out on his word or lied or anything. CNJ's are still elementally aligned (even moreso since the devs intend to focus them on Wind/Water/Earth) just with a healing focus. THM's are still masters of Destruction and most people probably played them as such since for a long time their nukes have been better. Anyways it's not anything that hasn't been said already in the endless CNJ/THM WHM/BLM threads we had for months.

i dont think they should abolish the armory system, but to be honest, they basically killed multiple directions for future jobs. The classes are now minor league jobs, whereas before each class could have gone a couple different directions, under the new system you see that they made jobs essentially an extension of the classes, not a specialisation, but the rest of the class. what other direction does thm have now? what job can take only those thm abilities and represent something other than blm? What job could take most of gladiators skills and be anything but a shield tank. The proposal makes sense, but only because with the first wave of jobs we are limited by one class to one job. After a couple more base classes are added for requirement combinations, we'll soon have (for entirely hypothetical example) Lancer splitting into Dragoon, Templar, and Dragonkin. At that point, people can enjoy casual messing-around activity as the base classes with free-er choice of abilities to set, and switch up to the defined roles when things get serious and Meteor's knocking at the door.
Sorry but job are classes now. Its justa power up.
The only reason the armory still has any value is a more open cross class potential, hence the ability to adapt.
+1 to this ^Oh boy another Neptune thread

So seriously, Neptune, you want SE to stop developing game content to fix something that is not broken.
Yeah... good luck with that.
The armoury system is the most flawed system there is, no one should be forced to level a job to max they dont want to for that one ability the community says you need or you are gimp.
If you have a class at max level it should be something you enjoy playing and will play when called for, not something you will be telling linkshells "I have all classes max level, but I only want to play LNC, I only leveled everything else for the level 50 action" for example.
Also LNC = MRD = PUG =ARC = GLA and CON = THM except distance of attacks they are the same because you can equip almost everything on any class, this is why the changes are a good thing, in every other MMO there is something that sets each class appart but in FFXIV there isnt.
He realised the system is broken so is fixing it, something you obviously cant see, if they keep classes the same they might as well roll the DoW/M into 3 classes Fighter, Tank and Mage, because thats all we have now.Can you post the link to that quote? I have been looking for it for days.

i disagree, but it doesnt really matter that much any more, the future is coming, and armory is in a cage. I accept the reality, but doesnt mean i think it was the best answer. The armoury system is the most flawed system there is, no one should be forced to level a job to max they dont want to for that one ability the community says you need or you are gimp.
