I think the question is valid, and it's a shame to detract from it by arguing about the rudeness.
There are two separate mechanics which are (annoyingly) rolled into one: undersized and unsynced. I would argue that they should be separated and only unsynced should be locked for current content.
Undersized doesn't make anything 'faceroll' at all. If it's facerollable just because 6 people can go in rather than 8, forcing everyone to stand around making a PF just to have 8 is even more facerollable. I see no reason to keep undersized locked out for even the newest content. Let people go in, explore, try new tactics, watch the opening cutscenes, take pictures. POTD shows there's a type of person that enjoys pushing challenges to their limits; let them play! It's extra content at almost zero cost to the developers.
Unsynced does trivialise content and leaving that for the next expansion cycle is fair. I would support that. So separate the two options and everyone wins (other than those wanting to be carried through old-but-current content).
Since CT is locked out even while it's old content, it's reasonable to raise the question now rather than waiting for 4.0 and being surprised when Void Ark is locked out. Vidu raises a very good point that there might be challenges in physically queueing for the undersized version in an alliance that we aren't appreciating, and of course some encounters are probably never going to be possible without a certain number of players due to their design. But even with WT I cannot get into CT/VA any more, and not everyone plays on high pop servers where PFs will fill over many hours. Even if there are some hard blocks like bosses which cannot possibly be killed without a certain number of people or the mechanics with different parties in an alliance being treated in a certain way outside of the players' control, I think it would be fun to let people have the chance to try; don't nerf the actual fights. Just slap a warning message on there that you will need more players to actually complete it and then nobody can complain. People can still train on the earlier bosses and explore.
Incidentally, it would be very nice to be able to shuffle players in an alliance between parties when inside a dungeon too; other MMOs have this and it really helps. It would also help a lot in PVP because it's annoying when you're in FL and one group has all of the healers while another has none -_-
