Caster question

I have always enjoyed having a caster as one of my alts/jobs etc I have tried BLM WHM but I just get no real thrill from them Albeit only got up to like lvl 30 on each.
The question is what caster is the easiest to play. I will not main him (probably not) as I really like my BRD and PLD but I want to also have a caster.
Any recommendations? I just want a good caster but not one that will take hours to learn. I do like the one that throws those huge boulders and does kick ass damage (not sure which one it is)
This may be silly but any guidance would be great.

It can be argued that summoner is easier for various reasons.
Really at 30 you cannot get a real idea of how a job is as it changes @ 50, and now 60 is even more different.
Summoner is the best at aoe damage (used to be blm) and has fairly good single target damage while having mobility. Black mage is just behind in the aoe department but has higher single target damage (your a turret really). but does not have the mobility aspect of every other job in this game

Just to be clear, the only two Jobs in the game that are actually of the Caster role are Black Mage and Summoner. Besides being damage dealers, Casters also distinguish themselves by doing high AoE damage. I'm not sure how AoE damage compares between Black Mage and Summoner, though I think Black Mage does a little more, but Casters are certainly better than Melee at AoE.

White Mage casts spells, yes, but it is a Healer first. However, I will admit that a lot of battles are easy enough to allow you to deal decent damage even as a Healer, but you have to make sure no one gets KOed first. I personally think White Mage is the easiest healer to deal damage as because of strong stacking regen effects, though Scholar can also do good damage while healing because it has periodic damage and the fairy's healing.

You should know better SMN is not a class you can just learn within 3 minutes and the micro managing of the pets are tedious. However if you're planning to put some time and effort into that, somewhere down the road, than yes SMN would be a class you should take a look at, till then try BLM. BLM got changed with the introduction of HW and is now better at single targets compared to smn (better at aoe), but it's not as difficult to play

I went with BLM and I really really like it. I just hope that the casting gets a bit faster as I lvl this guy, it seems to take forever to cast anything but he is POWERFUL!!

Sadly SE made this game into one of tediously long cast times and even more tediously long GCD.

While you can pile on '+Spell Speed' it'll always be a snooze-fest when it come to casters.

At level 51+ blm starts to change and by the time you reach 60 it is completely different.
You have timers to worry about and the fact that mechanics will happen no matter were you place your leylines, lol
It is possible however (at level 60) to have so much spell speed that leylines may not be needed as much.
I sit at over 1200 spell speed

The ultimate caster. BRD the bowmage!

At 52 your BRD gets cast bars, so a psuedo-caster.

I know you are looking for something that tosses actual magic but figured I'd let you know of the bowmage thing lol.

SMN is the easiest caster to play. BLM has the big animation spells. At 60, both become very time sensitive when it comes to rotations, as like all other classes. Have fun with one though!
