Need advice - Before quiting (?) or coming back after a break...

I need advice from anyone who had quit and / or come back later.

I will try to keep it short but it's difficult.

In a nutshell, reasons why I am thinking of quitting are two.
Real life (building my house, expanding my business, studying to get a new license).
Lack of enjoyment in the game. (Not going to explain why because so many others say it here every day anyway.)

Now I am very busy and I have not played in over a week. I used to play almost every day, at least to do Roulettes. But I have no time and no motivation to log in. But I miss my FC friends already.

My subscription renewal is coming up, so I want to make a decision before then.

    My questions are these:
What should I do with my money and items? Should I give them to someone / put them in our FC chest?

If I keep everything, but never return to the game, it's such a waste! I have friends and / or my FC who could use money and items.
But, what if, someday, I decide to come back? I will have no / little money and few items.

Right now, I think there is no chance to come back. I can only imagine becoming more busy and, if I even have time, there are other games (not online games) I want to try playing.

I thought about logging in, just to talk to people, but I don't want to pay subscription fee just for it. I can go out and meet people to talk to instead.

Before my subscription time runs out, what should I do? Does anyone have a similar experience? Anyone who gave away their money / items and came back later?
If you did return after a long break, how did you feel about the game? Was it worth returning to?

You seek answers that nobody can give but yourself.
If you want to completely stop the game because you don't like it at all then give away your stuff to a friend or keep them and just stop playing. Gils in this game are not that useful anyways.
If you are just bored and want to take a long break and change your mind when 4.0 drops keep your items.
You must seek answers inside you for this.

Quitting the game isn't something I've done before, but I'd recommend keeping at least some valuable items and money just in case you ever decide to return. I get that you may not want to return to the game given your circumstances, but remember that as an MMO this game can have a long lifespan. It may be too time-consuming and boring at the moment, but when like 6.0 (if the game lasts that long, which nobody can really know) comes out you may regret giving away everything.

As for going logging on purely for the social aspects (speaking to friends etc), I think this is actually a really common reason why people continue to play. That said, there are so many other ways to communicate with friends online that paying a subscription fee for it probably isn't necessary.

XIV is intentionally designed to be played in short bursts. It's natural to get bored and want to play other things because the game isn't designed to keep the player occupied indefinitely. Even the devs themselves have said to simply play a different game when you feel like this. So, my recommendation would be to keep at least something and give it some time before doing something like giving away all items/money, deleting characters, etc.

I got burnt out and tired of this game after doing most heavensward content. I unsubbed and a year later I ressubbed, idk why, and I love it again! The high level dungeons trials and raids are such fun and other elements add a nice touch too. Playing with real people offers something over single player games, although I like those too. The story is decent although I find it kind of difficult to follow.

I'd recommend keeping it for now. If you truly never want to or can't find the time to play again you can always pop back on during a free login weekend and say a proper goodbye

Yes. It's called getting tired of the game or burnt out, my friends and myself included are bored.
I'm done with the game for the most part until 3.5 in all honesty.
    It happens.
If you miss FC friends, see if they got discords or something to chat with every now and then.
But real life > some video game. The game will be here for you if you decide to come back.
Don't cancel your account entirely. You won't be totally 100% busy forever.
You really won't be seeing me because XV is out lol.

Only you can answer those questions I'm afraid, I've known so many players that quit for good only to return 6 months later. I wouldn't worry too much about your stuff to be honest, money is not that important in this game unless you need penta melded crafted gear for high end raiding, and most of your stuff you can't give away anyway. Not only that but if you do take 6 months off by the time you get back your gear will be trash so you will be straight back into the grind again regardless.

I would say though as someone who has quit twice now (only returned 2 weeks ago) It always does me good. I mean sure, I'm behind the current curve but catching up doesn't take that long in this game, aggressive vertical progression is a double edged sword and while hardcore veterans are burned out by it, returning players benefit from it.

So take a few month out if that's your instinct, it's not the end of the world and you can always just come back if and when you're ready.

I quit shortly around 2.3 or 2.4 I believe and was gone for almost a year and only resubbed shortly before HW came out and I've been playing it ever since and for pretty much the same reason, I got bored and tired of the game. Not sure how much money you have but I would certainly recommend keeping a nice nest just in case you do come back if you decide to give it away. Sure people may enjoy the money but they also would have so many options to make it themselves.

    1. keep your marketable amout of gil, unless you are a glamour hog, you realy dont need it.
    2. purge any gear that isnt your main class(s) top of the line, by the time you get back it will all be worthless usage wise or price point. (glamour excluded)
    3. sell all mats, asside from very specific uses mat prices go down over time.
    4. if you craft/gather buy a top of the line omni set for each. for general purposes this type of gear keeps for a very long time.

this will give you a clean start if you decide to come back later. allows you to give some to friends but not railroad yourself if you come back. also as said above dont cancel your account just turn the auto renew off. socailizing is just that it is all going to be what channels you and your friends are willing to use, there are lots available.
