Interesting, looks suspiciously like 2.0 will use Unreal Engine 3.

I Coulda sworn Crystal Tools is UE3, and this new engine is a modified Crystal Tools, that will be made solely for MMOs. (Maybe i remember this wrong.)
I remember YoshiP saying it would be a combination of Luminous+Crystal Tools in one of the interviews...
Or more like, core programmers of the Luminous engine are also the ones writing the engine for ffxiv, while keeping the compatibility to crystal tools data (our characters)
tbh, that last part is somehow worrying me. They should get away from crystal tools completely and just write a converter for our character data.
Oh and crystaltools is not UE3, it's SE's own development.

Some of their sister companies use the U3 Engine, is why there might be some "suspicion" (I believe there was a link below that article Pretty Princess that made mention of SE resigning use of U3 Engine).
But like others have already mentioned, Yoshi-P has already stated that the new engine is being developed by the developers of the Luminous Engine to work in conjunction with parts of the Crystal Tools Engine.
not only that but when SE announced the white engine they said they used the unreal engine as its main influence. Some of their sister companies use the U3 Engine, is why there might be some "suspicion" (I believe there was a link below that article Pretty Princess that made mention of SE resigning use of U3 Engine).

they didnt go into that much detail but it seemed to me that they took some core elements of the unreal engine and just modified it from there.
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
All the knowledge we possess is limited... that sounds like a philosophical assertion, which it is, but more particularly, I am referring to the inner movements of a corporation whose workings and hierarchical protocols we know very little about.
The don't-blame-Tanaka,-blame-Wada-instead movement tires me, because it smacks of a rather lowbrow, stick-it-to-the-man credo, based in NO FACTUAL INFORMATION. I blame the most likely culprit, the inept director who also approved the design of the miasma that was the FFXI interface. (Remember feeding your baby chocobo?)

You could have read the small article that the OP linked. Such fail.....
If anything, it is more possible to be derived from this. Unless he is true in saying that it's a completely new engine.Originally Posted by Gamasutra
