    Crafting mats

    Hi all, new player here.

I'm lvl 30 and i have a TON of crafting mats from leveling. I took up weaving, botany, fishing, and culinary profs but none of them seem to need the things i have in my bags. I'm almost out of space and i really want to know what to do. Should i just vendor all this stuff?

Wish there was some more info next to the items regarding what profession they were for at least...

Also, for 'materia' i have a bunch of materia but am unable to socket it in via the vendor, am i correct in assuming that the ones i converted have a level restriction to what items they can be socketed into? If so, is there any way to 'upgrade' these materia or do i just vendor them if i can't use them anymore?

    Thanks!

    have you checked marketboard prices?

If you hit N while in a crafter class it will bring up your crafting recipes, look through and see what is shifting on the Marketboards.

Never vendor Materials you'll be losing out on a lot of potential profits

Materia has ilvl restrictions, you can read what they say on the tooltip for materia.

    for instance

Grade 1 Materia needs item level 15 + gear
Grade 2 is item level 30+ gear
Grade 3 is item level 45+ gear
Grade 4 is item level 70+ gear
Grade 5 needs item level 170+ gear

Materia meld Vendors cannot put materia into hidden slots, so if you have a body with 2 meld slots filled, hidden slots are the other 3 you cannot see, they carry a scaling risk of failure and only a crafter can meld these slots

If you can't use the Materia, look at Marketboard prices, there is always a market for materia regardless of type or grades

you cant really put the craft in a tooltip to an item because each material is used by several crafts. Though there is a general trend of which type of gathered materials are used for which professsion,
botany : Carpenter, alchemy, culinarian, weaver
Miner : blacksmith, armourer, goldsmith, (leatherworker alumen for leathers)
    fisher : alchemy, culinarian
    monster drops : leatherworker, alchemy
This isnt an absolute list but something of a trend which gathering class is most usefull for each class

    Thanks for the help.

How can I tell what is a meld slot of hidden slot? The gear I have has green hollow circles.

Depending on how into Crafting and Gathering you are and if you are willing to get extra retainers - personally I really enjoy crafting and gathering in this game and I made 4 retainer so I don't have to throw anything out. The lv1 materia that I really don't need I trade to the Gob NPC and transmutate the ones I don't want to keep ... I believe he takes 5 of your junk ones and turns them into 1 random materia... it's a gamble but if its just junk materia that sells for less then 100gil why not!

There's info on that out there but I usually just trial and error. One thing for sure is when you go to attach a materia the window before it actually melds it to the gear tells you if its going to give you the full potential of that materia - like if you use a strength+2 materia if the window says it will give you strength +1 or strength +0 only obviously don't waste that meteria.

Oh and don't feel like you have to meld stuff to your gear below lv50. You can if you want to.
Sometimes when I am leveling a new class/job and want to do a higher levequest I might throw on an acc+2 on my belt but that's usually about it
and maybe for the weekly challenge log XD

While levelling, any gear you find with materia slots can be melded with up to 5 materia. But the chance to meld more than once past the given slots is so low, it's not worth it at all to try. The cost will add up very fast. Also, the answer Ichirai gave you about the potential of materia is something mostly unrelated and is outdated, no offense to him. At the bottom of the materia meld window, the game will now show the maximum amount of each stat an item can have. He is right that it's practically never worth the cost to meld a lot of materia, but you may end up with a few here or there, in which case you can easily use them with a Materia Melder NPC.

As for all the stuff you're finding, please take the time to look at its price on the market board and sell it there. When you're going to sell an item, there's a Compare Prices button at the top of the Adjust Price window, so this is a lot easier than you think. Plenty of rich people will pay a silly price for convenience, and when you're new to the game, any money is a healthy amount.
