You say this as if it's insignificant. The reality is, Monk only does 50-100 DPS than a DRG at equal skill level. Possibly even less, it's extremely close.
The benefit of Monk is really just Dragon Kick, which DRK now offers.
Well.. tbf by doing the highest (sustained) dps, MNK has the best synergy with Balances, TA, Battle Litany.
And yet, what people aren't looking at is group comps. Not everyone has or can run the perfect team comp. But Lets just give monk something to compete with drg and nin.. suddenly monk becomes the spot holder, and somebody else has to sit out, so what does it matter? Every melee is finally viable and in a good place. Just because monk isn't perfect comp tier, doesn't mean it needs huge buffs, and defintly doesn't mean its behind the other 2 by any stretch.
I seldom write a nay post. I'd like to think most points are valid. However, the only thing MNK suffers from currently is it's personal skill cap to play. Not only are Monk's capable of the highest DPS production in FFXIV (I've never known them not to be #1 or chasing #1) they are also the most complicated DPS to play from my experience. I have watched many, from T1 to Sepheriot (I've quit a few times between and I've just returned this week pardon the content lapse) Have to be all around more aware, all around more precise, all around more skilled than the other DPS in the group.
Success as a Monk requires a skilled player. When you're running around and you see a Monk with the best gear available, you're looking at an exceptional example of player skill.
I compound this as my person observation. I do not play on a raid heavy server: On my realm only a few of us ever clear the content. (Few being relative to the fact we have had a pretty massive population over the years which recently has dropped sharply while I was away)
By my observations only the best of Monk's succeeded; While I have seen a few mediocre Dragoon's manage some success and glory.

I like beating the dents out of my shield using my helmet. Sometimes I forget to take the helmet off first.

I'm talking near BLM level dps.
LefeinNoel, MNK hasn't been difficult to play since Heavensward, every other class got skills that made their rotation more complicated and raised their skill cap, but MNK? Every skill added in Heavensward patched most of the difficulty of playing MNK, it's now much harder to lose GL compared to pre-ARR.
People acting like the job they play is holding them back somehow.
PLD, WHM, and MNK clear content just fine. Yea, they're not ideal for world-class speed-runs. How many people crying in this topic play at that level?
How many of these people cared about sidelined DRGs / NINs during early A8S prog when traited Mantra was extremely helpful?
I'm PLD, we don't have DRK so MNK helped us in clearing savage, 5th week with A12S on farm. Of course we are not world speed (BRD instead of MCN, MNK instead of DRG, PLD instead of DRK) but we still do very good numbers...
The problem with monks is greased lightning stack, that needs to go, because SE keep adding content with dead time, stops, bosses that teleports, change phases and stuff.
This just destroys any monk dps compared to any other class that doesnt rely on greased lightning dmg buff.
Im personally really bored of this fight design where you always have pauses between actions/phases and stuff like that.
Thats the only problem.
On a standing target monk is still highest dps. but due to the fact that bosses mechanic are so idiotic designed, it suffers a lot from these pauses ans phase shifts.
