I don't care whether someone on a website wrote a guide for me or whether someone in chat in game writes a guide for me. Either way, it's someone writing a guide for me. The only difference? One holds either 3, 7. or 23 people up from doing something, the other does not.

Please be considerate like me and save everyone else a pointless, unnecessary waste of time.

The main thing for me, is the fact that the guides usually go way too much into detail with it..

If you ask a player about a mechanic in game, the player will likely say "If you get the mark, go stand over there." verses a video guide, which will say "Any player that recieves the mark should proceed to the east side of the platform and stay there while the tanks move to the north side of the platform, with the boss and the healers move to the south side of the platform while pulling one of the adds with them."

honestly by the time the guide finishes that whole sentence, i will have forgotten that there's even a mark to watch out for because i'm so overwhelmed with the information thrown at me. Players in game are brief and to the point, and cut out all the excess information that doesnt pertain to you specifically. In a lot of cases, for me at least, thats a lot easier for me to retain and learn.

I'm probably just what people consider a bad player because I have poor reaction time and despite knowing what to watch for, I sometimes don't catch them until too late. So watching a video and getting an explanation isn't enough, I have to actually DO the fight and get a feel for it so I can comprehend all the little things more intuitively. But people can be real dicks about it.

I actually ask for explanations moreso to get an idea of the people I'm running with. The kind of explanations you get when you say your new or you still need a clear say a LOT about the group as a whole, and part of doing mechanics is being able to anticipate your party members (particularly as a healer, like I play) If I don't know what to expect of the tank and the monsters aggroed on the tank, then I will be unprepared for big moves that drop HP to next to nil.

I CAN learn, and I CAN succeed in these things but people are so elitist a lot of the time that I just want to avoid end game content because of the toxic environment. People have different learning curves, and a negative environment is very detrimental. (If people are screaming bloody murder about a few wipes, it stresses people out and performance suffers. You're more likely to mess up on simple things if you're high strung because of a bad apple)

In most of the guides you have a tone of infos because they are made at the content release, some of then being useless by the time a "cazu" player does the fight. (cazu here being the guy who takes his time, no offence intended)
For example I remember players saying Ozma or the guys before (can't remember his name) was sooooooo damn hard when now it's just rolling your head on your keyboard with our current stuff.
With that in mind, people are not asking for THE strat, but for the relevant one atm cause most of the mechanics can be skipped as we go through the game's updates.

In fact, they may be trying to save some of your time, why waste time and DPS avoiding aoes for example if you can handle them thanks to your stuff and if your healers can handle it too ? Maybe when the fight was released you needed to avoid them but you might not have to do it now and keep DPSing instead

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

cant spare 5mins to tells them to dodge this or get away from that? jesus christ where is the downvote button on this forum. This is my 1st real MMO and even i understand communication. i mean when you get into something new and cool do u just look up a guide? maybe ,but i go in blind i love feeling wowed or awed at new content, new mechanics anf LOVE figuring them out. i mean if someone could do a non spoily guide on the fight or w/e ur doing in under 2mins then yeah sure il look at it. but there aren't any so tough titty. be a good sport make someone's day and spend 5mins telling them how to do the fight. or just be like me and say "dodge stuff", "punch stuff", or my favorite "you'll figure it out" idk i just dont mind spending and extra 30 in a dungeon.

Because you aren't supposed to do research for a video game. You can't ask for people to do things outside of the game just because you are not willing to explain in your party chat. If you blame those people being lazy for not looking on YouTube videos so you must do for yourself for not explaining in game.

    This is nonsense.
Would you go to a chess tournament expecting someone to take the time to explain you the rules of the game before you can start playing? Would you then answer "I'm not supposed to do research for a game" to all the people in the tournament complaining that you are wasting their time?

If we were to take your (flawed) logic further, it'd mean that people who are figuring out the best rotation or BiS gear and talking about that on forums shouldn't exist.
You are expected to know your rotation. Why don't you apply the same thing to knowing how to deal with an encounter? Both are the same thing: knowing and understanding game mechanics in order not to be a burden to the people you play with.

Also, FFXIV is a MMORPG with complex mechanics. If you can't deal with the fact that the "game" expand beyond what's in the chatbox, then what are you doing on these forums in the first place?
Damn this "everything should be done inside the game hurr durr" argument is pissing me off. Especially when people came "outside" the game to tell that.

That's not anywhere near the same thing. If you're going to a tournament, you're going to compete for some mixture of money, fame, or whatever, because you're serious about the game in question. A better comparison would be being invited to play a game of field soccer from chums at work, and them getting mad at you cause you have no idea how to play.

Most tournaments also require you to qualify first. It's more comparable to a farm party that requires you to have cleared at least once already.

That being said, I knew people that didn't want to look up rotations or tip on how to play a task.. rather wanted to find an individual "teacher" to tell them everything instead. And then, these same people would put themselves in the "teacher" position for new people.. despite not actually knowing how to play their job all that well.. They were quite excited when the mentor system came out..

I don't mind giving a quick rundown of tips, but I do get irritated when full explanations are expected for old (let's say greater than a month) content.
