I only if ever read WRITTEN guides. I refuse to watch smeary videos that were taken on garbage tier settings because the one making the guide has a rig made of dumpster parts, with mouthbreating voiceover and voicecomm chatter for the audio.

I don't mind if someone asks for advice to play the dungeon better, but I always get irritated when someone wants to know every little thing. I'm not going to carry you, either come in with a rough idea or learn on the fly. I get especially ticked when I type the dungeon into google and the first result is a basic run down.

    There's a word for that...
The word is "carry" and, in this case, "hypocrite" on the one asking for the answers.

I think it just depends on the content. If it's a 4 man dungeon, any boss fight can be summed up in one or two sentences. No big deal. EX primals however are different. If you're not going in with a pre-made group, I feel it's more respectful to have a basic idea of the fight beforehand. But like some people have stated, not everyone learns from guides. I can't retain all the information from a 10 minute video. I learn best through practice. But a rough overview of harder fights is best to have when first going in.

I've been in a few situations where I thought I'd have to wait 15 minutes (lol dps queue) but the duty finder pinged instantly and I couldn't look anything up.

The only time I didn't read anything about a hard fight ahead of time was when my FC kept asking me to fill in for their static after I already said no 3 times. I told them okay whatever, but that I wasn't going to watch anything first because I had irl stuff to do and couldn't put off to study the fight beforehand. They said sure and there were many deaths.

I don't know how it works in other servers, but in ours it is very common to see, in Party Finder Description.
"Preparation Necessary. Reference this guide: [URL Address here]. Early disbanding possible if lack of preparation."

Approximately 111 days spent on my main, and approximately another 50 days between my two alts. So somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 days spent in game... sooo.. sure lets call it 10 minutes a day. =P

Why I only do certain trials the day they open when no one knows what they're doing and no one has the "go watch a video" line because no one's made one yet. Usually turns out fine.

Also why I don't try to pug most trial stuff anyway, because ultimately I'd much rather deal with the person who says they're new than the one person complaining about having noobs in a group since it's those kinds of people who cause the biggest problems in group content anyway.

Kinda. They aren't "Spoiling" the fight by watching whats to happen but I mean...if they want written guides...
They may as well go on the interwebs and not watch a video...
Personally I just watch crap because I'm not going to get screamed at when I ask stuff,
and I personally just feel like I am wasting time. To each their own I guess, I'm willing to help sometimes
but things like Primals and Raids I cannot be fooked with it after tryna tell ya'll what to do 30 times.
If we keep failing, at that point people should turn to guides/videos to see whats happening from there on.
If I forget something I just ask someone for a quick reminder and that's that.

BUT, in DF you're rolling da die there so eh.

I think the best time to complete new content, especially difficult content, is as soon as if first comes out. The reason is that most people who will challenge it on the first day are skilled, know their jobs / role well, and have appropriate gear.
Most people in my FC cleared Sofia EX within the first 2 or 3 hours after it was released. Of course, there was no video or guide.
Maybe not everyone knows what to do in the fight, but they can figure it out quickly and adapt. They have the skills to do so.

Fast forward to today, and I know people who are STILL struggling to complete that trial. Because they can't find a good group. Doesn't it seem contradictory?
That's because people who are going now are on a different level than the people who cleared it on the first day. On top of these players not being skilled / lacking knowledge about their job / being undergeared, not knowing the mechanics of the fight beforehand makes it so much worse.

I have accompanied some of these people to help them clear the EX Sophia, and some other members in the group were just terrible. The least they could do is read about the fight to give the group a higher chance of success.

I personally don't mind if it is the first day of the patch and guides are not out yet. We just enter blindly and have fun learning.
However, if it's an old content I would expect people to have an idea about what they are doing. If not, they just copy what they see other party members are doing or learn from their mistakes.

When we have a bonus in dungeon, generally I don't explain anything unless asked to.
I will not explain every single mechanic down to its' details. I'd say something like "If you get tether hide behind rocks." that's it.
