In my boat it's mostly a "What would be more fun? Looking this up or just running it?" and "Who am I running this with? Friends or strangers?"

Then again, I also run it with my group of friends and we all go in there with rather epic failure- it leads to a lot of good laughs.

This is a great example of the other night, and to this thread. Myself and two other guild mates were new to Chrysalis, but there were seven of us in total, so we still queued in DF and picked up one random (bet he loved the comms). Anywho, the three of us admitted to not watching any guides as we did not want spoilers, and like a lot of posters here, they said absolutely nothing because they wanted us to experience it blind..... and wipe, lol! We all saw these mysterious orbs bee-lining towards the boss, yet we did nothing and continued to burn the boss because hey, "It's story mode. Sooo roflstomp, right?"

Anywho, afterwards, they explained the mechanic and it was a non-issue the next round, but they sure got a kick out of it.

Fast forward through cutscenes and the guild's lead tank asks if anyone wants to do Ultima EX. Again, myself and two others have not done it. Again, we explain we have not seen or read any guides. We decide to do this one unsynced just the seven of us, and they let us experience this one blind as well. Having come from the last encounter and seeing how I needed to pick up the orbs, these mysterious orbs appear for this fight as well that were not present in the NM encounter, and are bee-lining towards the boss! I eat one not knowing the damage is split up and go from full health to zero in an instant. As a SCH who should have her head in the books, this was quite embarrassing. But epic fails are indeed hilarious the majority of the time.

So these two instances were reminders of why I DO like to at least look at a written guide if I know the stakes are high, and if doing things via PUG. But with a group of friends and guild mates, I am ok with going in blind because well, not only is it more fun and I know I am not going to be heal-shamed for the derps, the frat boys also get a huge kick out of it as well. Jerks!

I think the OP was more about those cases that go into a fight and expect the others to tell him every little detail. And here I agree with him. If you want so much details for the bosses than maybe its better to just look it up yourself. If its not a complete new fight than there should be enough guides out there, as a video or as a text. Its probably no problem if you missed something or did not understand a mechanic and ask about it, but wanting every little step explained is way too much. If I explain things I will only tell about the most important ones, all the other mechanics like AOE should be already known by the players.

My main language is German, but most of the time I either get French or English speaking players as randoms. I still try to explain it in English but skills/attacks from bosses have different names in each language. So its not always easy to do so. I also dont think that you need that much explanations in normal dungeon runs. And if you are doing the newest ex primal than its probably better to at least look up most of it. You will only get better in the fight by doing it, but I can understand people that get annoyed by having to explain these things to every new training/down group.

I think this is something that both sides should respect. If you go into hard content, at least look it up a little to make it easier for the rest of the group, but at the same time the other people should just accept that you cant just remember everything even if you watched a guide, so maybe some sentences with the most important informations should be posted. But going into such a thing and expecting everyone else to explain every little detail of the fight is imo as bad as expecting people to remember every little detail. Both sides should be helpful in the situation.

    That are my two cents.

Ok, so there's a lot of extreme ends going on all throughout this thread, so I'll bring the middle ground:

The way I do it is if they didn't watch the guide, I give them a brief 60 rendition of the key mechanics(like the marks for swift liberation in ravana for example[not that people listen to that anyway because tunnel vision])
I apply this same rule to people who also haven't done the fight in a long while since they key mechanics are the biggest memory cue in most cases.

Then for those who do watch the guide and struggle, I'm more than happy to give them tips and advice or explain more in-depth.

I do have one exception to not watching a guide: If I see you're actively trying to learn the fight(like asking if you did a mechanic a wrong way), You get a pass since you're putting in effort and imo if you put in the due effort, you always get an A.
