I agree it should be implemented on day 1, not mid-season, not 2nd season, not 3rd season. Better late than never!
Now you're generalizing, and I'll ask you not to do that.

I personally have made strides to build up a community on my small server, through teaching at the dueling circle to custom matches, and eventually 8v8 matches both with and against many friends and top players. I have NEVER tried to tear down someone who's new. In fact, my first advice to many of them was that they will make mistakes, and they will lose. But it's not the mistake you make, it's how you learn from it and adapt. And from being patient and as helpful as I can, I'm happy to say Goblin had a small but flourishing PvP community WELL before the Garo event.

Secondly, you're propagating the very negative stigma that the Feast community is not helpful or inviting. Consider this: If we don't help new people, and if we in particular tear down and scare off new players, what do you think would happen to queues? Plenty of people here have show themselves to be quite reasonable, patient, and far removed from the stigmas others would be misled to believe so universally true of those of us that love PvP. Bluntly, that is an insult to players like myself and others who DO make efforts to carry ourselves better than that.

With that phrasing, you're not even trying to pretend like you aren't JUST here to troll and light a fire under people's butts who are trying to seriously discuss this. Unless you're actually going to contribute more to the discussion than passive-aggressive posts and baiting, then please kindly vacate so much more articulated posts can be made.

I've met far more helpful people who are willing to offer advice compared to people who are just being toxic. Why? People queue up for any form of content, PvE or PvP, and unless they're there to deliberately troll then they don't want to waste any time. More often than not if one player asks strangers "How do I do this boss fight?" or in the Feast's case pre-chat restriction, "First time here, what do we do?" then there is a very likely chance that another player will explain what to do. The PvE players want to clear content so then can do something else. PvP players want to win.

Recently, with the influx of players in PvP, I've gotten to see varying players and gotten to chat with them through Frontlines (as the Feast doesn't allow that). While this isn't the Feast, there are comparisons that can be made just because it's a PvP mode as well. I've gotten to learn and observe several things about that particular game mode that can be applicable to post and previous Feast matches (particularly in 8v8 scenarios).
    • When I queued for Frontlines and entered the instance, I would often talk to players in the short period of time before the match would start. In the times I did do 8v8 (which I didn't do much this and the previous raid cycle because I got really busy and the queues weren't the best whenever I queued) I did the same as well. In the Frontlines, I established myself as the shotcaller and gave general advice and asked people to please listen to callouts. In the 8v8s, depending on our team composition and how long I didn't play I would either ask questions or suggest things. As stated earlier I could coordinate with teammates and say "I'm playing White Mage, please let me sleep this target." "I'm going to mark this target and burst them down. Please help me." Or even to other tanks if I'm playing a DPS. "When I see you use Full Swing, I'll burst them down." Communication. It's a wonderful thing.
    • In the games I said absolutely nothing in Frontlines, I would more-often-than-not lose. Likewise in Feast pre-restriction, most losses incurred had minimal communication. I see a lot of players have no idea what to do or focus. I wish I could type and communicate things. I can't. It's extremely frustrating.
    • If I see someone asking a question, I would usually answer it. If I don't, I did it to see if other people would answer it first. More often than not, I would see that question answered by someone else. This applies to Frontlines and pre-restriction feast matches.
    • I've seen my fair share of trolls and toxic players. I've done things where I've ignored them or I've just outright scolded them. "If you can't contribute anything helpful, please be quiet." They'd usually continue most of the time. This applies to every single aspect of the game. All PvP game modes and PvE content.
I've never played FFXI so I have no idea if there was PvP there and if so, how the community was. However in FFXIV, I feel SE doesn't know and doesn't understand that PvP can have some toxic players. Without any metrics to support how many toxic players there are to non-toxic players and comparing it to PvE numbers and ratios, I can really only guess this.

The PvP community is small. The number of players that PvP are vastly dwarfed by PvE players. As a result, toxic players seem to be much more noticed in smaller communities than larger ones. I feel this is the reason that SE paid extra and, in my opinion, too much attention to the toxicity in the Feast.

Regardless, I and many other players I have spoken to have had much more positive experiences with chats enabled than disabled. There's a breed of bad-mannering with this quick chat anyway.

You died with ten stacks because you didn't play safe at all? I'll spam Nice Job! Even nice players end up doing that in hopes of people seeing that they did something wrong.

Because there is a large influx of players PvPing, trying to create a strong first few impressions of PvP is the most important thing. I have met far too many players that don't like The Feast because they have no idea what they are doing and can't ask questions during the match or, to be specific, before the match. They don't know what they're doing. I've had players ask me for advice but that doesn't help stave off the players that are on different servers that feel the same. This is an extremely REAL issue that cannot be stressed enough.

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.. is this still including ranked Feast? The most helpful advice I've seen thrown at a newbie has been "attack X, don't die", with more neutral/indifferent responses in the lines of "crap we lost". These before the match.

I think you are greatly exaggerating the utility of free chat communication too -despite all "strategy" discussed beforehand, more often than not, I've been seeing dps ignoring marks and going for the tank/healer coz-ohhhh-shiny, healers running around trying to dps(?), tanks chasing the melee around the arena.. No matter how much you talk/type/mark if ppl are to ignore you they will ignore you.
In this light, it's even more beneficial to avoid the distraction of typing in a message and go for a preset: if it gets noticed, good news, if not, at least you didnt waste a couple GCDs typing.

Low tier matches probably and some exception in high tier but in the end no matter how many phrases u add it will never cover everything you possibly want to say. There are people who ignore you either way yes but there are ppl who take advices and got better within the season cause of chat. You may think toxicity is gone but PvPers have discords/linkshell/livestreams to talk ppl bad and ppl always be bad if they dont get any advice/critism.

I love these matches where one person use the "attack the range dps", okay np, until seconds later another person spam "attack the melee dps", okay np we switching target but then seconds later another person use "attack the healer" and now we have a hot potato of "attack the range dps" "attack the melee dps" "attack the healer". What does that mean? We just switching target before we kill them?

Remove this restriction and just punish the offenders.

I agree that the chat restriction should be limited to the offenders.

As a main healer in the Feast, I find it highly frustrating to not be able to communicate to my party. Yes, I would still use macros because I wouldn't recommend typing while healing, but with this restriction I have absolutely no way, other than spamming "Fall back!" (That most of the times people don't listen to), to tell my party that I am out of mp, or that they went too far in while I am being focused by a stun/silence happy paladin and melee.

And the chat restriction in 4vs4 premade is silly...

Can't edit on mobile but I wanted to add that those matches made it hard without the chat.
