Oh wait, here it is - he is half Garlean with his mother being Ala Mhigan. Considering standard Garlean "policies" towards civilian populations I think it a small chance that the union between his parents was a.... happy one:

See, this implication bothers me because Arenvald seems to have the surname Lentius, and if that's not Garlean I'll eat my circlet. I wouldn't even think of questioning it if not for that, but it seems VERY unlikely that a Garlean soldier would go to the trouble of marrying the mother if she was just some random local he assaulted, and even less that the mother would choose to so blatantly identify the man who abused her by giving the bastard his name, since that would not only be traumatic for her, but likely invite reprisal from the father.

This leaves me with a few possibilities:
1. Lentius is another 'Bastard surname' like Greystone, perhaps specifically denoting bastards of Garlean soldiers.
2. Lentius is actually 100% an Ala Mighan name, even though it sounds very Garlean.
3. Something was lost in translation here.
4. His parents were legally married for some reason, though I suppose there could still be reasons the relationship wasn't happy/consensual?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd find a love story between a Garlean soldier and one of the locals infinitely more interesting than yet another throwaway reference to how the horrible Garlean soldiers are abusing the womenfolk again.

Well, there is a sidequest where you can help a Garlean solder (hyur) hook up with a miqote.... they even mention 'the pitter patter of little feet'. So I assume they can interbreed.
THere is also a sidequest for a lala male and hyur female that met on the battlefield and are in love. No mention of children in that one, though.

I did the aforementioned quest, but I was under the impression that the given statement could be interpreted as either "get kids the old fashioned way" or "get kids even if we have to adopt them." If the latter is possible then the statement might not be as useful a factor as we would hope.

It is a bit frustrating that there does not seem to be a clear statement on the matter. Certainly your given reason would satisfy the matter if it came from an official source.

In the case of Hilda, the devs were throwing out a half-elf, which is a fantasy staple since Lord of the Rings. But the Au Ra/Hyur Union is the only other mentioned instance of interspecies relations that probably produced kids - and even this might be a tale according to the teller.

Unearthing this ancient thread, as the recent Moonfaire event has confirmed something I suspected long ago:

Honestly, given that Gegeruju is a Lalafell himself, I'm a bit surprised that there aren't MORE Lalafel gals in his employ. I guess he's got a fetish for other races?

Yeeup, it's been confirmed that Gegeruju has a thing for women of other races, and explicitly names Miqo'te as tickling his fancy. This likely comes as a surprise to no one.

Still, it's yet another in-game example of in-game characters having absolutely no inhibitions when it comes to the subject of interracial hanky-panky, something that's theoretically supposed to be taboo. Even his beleaguered, yet normally level-headed assistant is perfectly open about how much she loves her some Hyur and Roe manflesh. (Dear, you're drooling - might want to clean that up.)

Then again, this IS Costa Del Sol. If taboos are to be tossed aside, this would be the place...
