I need to reply here to many things, lets see...

The story is there saying oh no Ishgards in serious danger Vishapp is on a ramapage, the situation looks grim. citizens are panicing the city is in chaos all that stuff. Then you come along and faceroll the entire fight..... no effort, no danger. nothing.... as a result the entire atmosphere the story is trying to build up. is lost...

It's the same with the all primals. the primals are supposed to pose a real threat to Eorzea and be a reald danger to the lands yet they get roflstomped repeatedly. so you never sense the level of danger or the threat they impose on the realm.

That's one of the best things I liked about clearing coil in ARR, the difficulty of the fights kinda emphasised the story and the difficulties / turmoils the cast and characters were facing at the time.
While i get what you are saying and i agree with you with some of it, on the other hand it's kinda hard to balance. Vishap for example, we enjoyed it, ok. But it gated an expansion, everyone tried to get out with it... And many of those players wanted to get carried while doing nothing for the rest of the party. The result? wipe, because if anyone fails the entire duty goes down along with it. If the healer fails: wipe/ if the dragonkiller fais: wipe/ If the cannons/chain fail: wipe... And so on. I got lucky with my commrades at the time, but many players got stuck because of that kind of duty alongside the MSQ.

I agree witn you there, we need a common ground of difficulty to be challenging. Also it needs to be rewarding... Not everyone does duties because of... That, nothing.

Heh, good old times.

When i picked up FFXI at the time i was... Well, i needed pratice xD Overall i enjoyed that kind of experience. Get a group -> Prepare for duty -> Go to the duty -> Get to the boss without being detected or try again -> Only one chance, kill the target. And i did Chains with randoms, not a static group. I get not everyone would enjoy it but... It was a dificulty that it got you into the game large ammounts of time.
