You seem to be mixing RP/muh lore with video games and their playability. Story and gameplay segregation and all that. By your logic all games would and should be Dark Souls 1 tier. But what you want will not make an industry thrive.

not at all. they don't need to be dark souls brutal. but they don't need to be face roll easy. there's so much middle ground between the 2 extremes.

why does it have to be either dark souls brutal or faceroll easy. there's a massive area between those 2 extremes where the difficulty could sit and be even mildly challenging. which is kinda where steps was before they nerfed the hell out of it..
