There's a lot of options under: Character Configuration -> Display Name Settings

I don't know whether they're the options you want or not, but you can have names show all the time, never, or only when they're targeted. You can choose the color font used for different categories of names. These settings can be specific to party members, friends, other players, NPCs, pets, minions, mobs, and so on. In the case of players, you can have their names displayed either spelled out or as initials, and you can choose whether to include their titles or not.

I don't believe there's a keybind for it, though. I agree that would be nice. I usually have player names shown, but sometimes when doing something (like S rank hunt or Odin FATE) that draws a really big crowd, I want to temporarily turn them all off, and then afterwards back to my normal settings. It's a little cumbersome to go into the configuration menu and search out party member name settings, and friend name settings, and other player name settings to switch them all off, then later do it again to turn them back on. It'd be nice to have a simple way to toggle between all names off or using our regular settings from that Display Name Settings page of Character Configuration.

Another improvement I'd like to see is an option on whether to show FC tags along with player names or not. Currently, if you have a name shown at all (even as initials) and that player is in an FC, then you're going to get their FC tag as well. The only way to turn off the FC tag is to turn off the name. I rarely have any interest in what FCs other players are in unless they're in my own, so I'd really like a way to turn off FC tags and just see the names. Perhaps a three-way setting: Show FC Tags With All Names / Show FC Tags Only For My FC / Never Show FC Tags
