[SCH] Hypothetical: 260 Relic > 275 Alexandrian (only dps!)

    Hi guys,

im thinking about something after i got my BIS as Scholar.

Isn't the 260 Relic better for Scholar than the 275 Alexandrian Weapon? (Only for DPS!)

Why do i got that realy "stupid" idea?

Dervy updated his Stat Weights a month ago and they most likely will be the final ones until 4.0. He also added WHM/SCH stat weights (which still have been taken with a grain of salt of course):

    WD: 9.128
    INT: 1.000
    DET: 0.190
    CRT: 0.266
    SS: 0.316 – 0.366
    Acc: Cap it

The following is most likely the bis for everyone right now as Scholar:

But what if you change it to this?

    http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/XJQM

We will have following MAX stat on a Moon Miqo'te with food. (Grilled Sweetfish on 275 Alexandrian-Set | Flaugnarde on Relic-Set.) Also i guessed the stats for the next Relict if its ilv 270. (Based on upgraded Shire Weapon):

If we translate it to Dervys Stat weights, it will look like this:

Sry for the typo, mixed German with English (Relikt = Relic)

Being able to meld the weapon with Accuracy gives you the option to meld SS to your other gear. You also avoid Piety on the weapon.

What do you guys think, is it worth if you only take DPS into account? (Healing shouldn't be that much affected anyway by it.)

From a theoretical standpoint - yes stacking SpS will grant more DPS.

Dervy calculated those weights based on 100% uptime for DPS with 0 healing ability. The reason SpS is rated so high is because SCH gets to double dip heavily in SpS like with Crit. The double dip comes from (1) more GCDs for DPS and (2) higher DoT potency due to the amount of DoTs SCH has. As soon as SCH starts having to perform their primary role and/or do mechanics, the effectiveness of SpS starts to dwindle as nothing in the SCH healing kit really benefits from SpS. If you need to Ruin II to do mechanics, you've lost some potency / GCD and if you have to heal you're not making use of the SpS either.

Overall Crit is the better way to go as it has the double dip benefit for both your DPS and heals (and even a triple dip benefit for Adlo) but if you're looking at absolute maximum DPS, go with SpS.

In the end you should pick what's good for you and your raid group as that's probably the most important thing to ask about optimization

Hum I do appreciate the math lay out there it offer some matter to play with (I'm a full Crit fanatic but I'm starting to discover benefit of SS)

one point trouble me... it's the supposed point about the final relic step
if the relic follow a similar pattern as the previous one, right now in the last part of the expansion it should meet with the final weapon
then the relic will probably be 275 like Alexandrian weapon
=> Except if they want to mark the difference between the reward weapon and the time-based weapon... but as it is now... even 270 the relic will have more secondary stat than the 275 one

The Relic will most likely hit iLv 275, but not with 2.5. There most likely will be a next step in 2.55, at this point the loot restriction in Alexander Savage will be lifted. But this is only the case if they follow the pattern from 2.5a & 2.5b

Yeah the SpS weight is assuming you are full-time DPS. But of course the best two stats for SCH is Crit/SpS (with ACC to cap).

Things are different now than ARR though. Remember they admitted they messed up during Gordias when the anima topped at 210. With A4S having i210 weapon and the Gobdip as well, they realized it was too late that they should have made the Gordian weapon i215. So Midas and forward they went with the raid weapon being absolute highest ilvl, since there was no 245 Anima either. I honestly believe they shouldn't have the Anima top at 275 as opposed to 270, because then they just lose all the incentives for people to try Alexander Savage, even if it becomes unlocked from the weekly loot lockouts.

But who knows, depending on the content drought beyond Part II of 3.5 story in March they might just throw everything they have at the game and toss another relic step.

The alexandrian is garbage. Doubly so once the relic updates again.
