Guys, please bring the "healers doing damage" conversation to a different thread. not that your opinions or concerns are less important then mine, but I made this thread about monk pvp, not healers doing damage. thanks guys![]()
There are a lot of elements that don't necessarily "make sense", but for what it's worth, OP, the positional nature of monk is the main reason I didn't continue with my monk. It doesn't feel very heroic or monkish to be constantly punching someone in the back of the head. That's not what I think of when I think of a monk or martial artist, at all.
Nah, this doesnt work out here.
1) lore suggests it (almost every healer npc does it)
2) real life paralells (military medic) suggests it
3) fantasy paralells (healing magic users in fantasy like elves in LotR) suggest it

Solid, obscure reasoning dictates that you are wrong. I won't get into details, as it could be quite lengthy. Just accept that you are wrong. Because nobody can argue with solid reasoning, no matter how obscure it may be.
Well to each their own i guess, not all monks are viewed that way, and while hitting a person in the face hurts more, behind can be lethal. As for the classes here, rouge move is from the front, once nin is from the back. The entire idea behind a Monk is someone who leads a life searching for peace, typically holding honor high, and keeping their vows(promises) in check. A monk, above all else, should be an honorable combatant yes?
Now that's where my confusion comes in. Almost all of monks abilities are increased potency from the back, or the flank, typically leading to you constantly punching your opponents from behind, which is the opposite of the idea behind an "honorable fighter." Not only that but, since when does being punched in the back of the head hurt even CLOSE to as much as being punched in the face? It doesn't. This on top of the fact that for some reason the ninja does more damage from the front out of his stealth attacks? Since when has an assassin wanted to stand in front of his opponent, and since when has a hand to hand combat fighter ever focused on hitting the skull or back of their opponent.

First off, attempting to inject logic into a video game often times doesn't work.
Second, the Monks in FFXIV are specifically disciples of Rhalgr the Destroyer. "Searching for Peace" and "Honor" are not tenants high on their list, nor ones showcased at any point during your interactions with the Fist of Rhalgr's disciples in the Monk Storyline.
Many of you are picking apart my opinion on how I feel a monks lore might work, but I definitely did not intend for that to be my main point, I dont know the story on a deep level, It was just to lead into my final point, which is just how awkward monk feels in pvp when Im forced to punch other humans in the back of the skull repeatedly.First off, attempting to inject logic into a video game often times doesn't work.

All of your opinions are appreciated but please do know this: All I wanted to get across was my opinion on how monk pvp could be improved, I just ended up bulking it out a bit more because of my, I guess you could call it "law student" tendencies XD
