Sounds believable. But that doesn't explain yet how eather flows into the world. Then again it took World of Warcraft over a decade to explain the well of eternity.I don't have my Encyclopedia with me right now, but I could have sworn that it says somewhere that Silvertear Lake was where magic/aether flowed into the world, and that Midgardsormr when he came to Hydaelyn was charged with its protection in exchange for a home for him and his brood...?

I don't think that is quite the same since in WoW's case they hadn't created the lore which explained it till they started organising their cosmology over the last couple of years. In Final Fantasy 14's case I suspect they have a pretty solid idea.
Silvertear lake is most definitely a very Aethericly active location. Its worth remembering that the Encyclopedia is educated studies not 100% unquestionable fact. In truth, there is probably a lot about the Metaphysics of the world we are yet to grasp.

I know it's not a perfect analogy, but it is the closest I could find.I don't think that is quite the same since in WoW's case they hadn't created the lore which explained it till they started organising their cosmology over the last couple of years. Well whatever is written about the creation of the world is definitely blackloam. At least we know what they think in universe.
I find myself wondering if Silvertear Lake is some sort of 'portal' that allows excess aether to seep into the world from elsewhere.

That's probably it. But where is that elsewhere and why is there a portal?
Yoshida said that the Warring Triad will give lot of new info for those who are interested in the void and parallel dimensions. It will also reveal the fate of Regula and the identity of Unukalhai. Shame I don't have the funds to resubscribe. But at least Archon Moose will be here with the details.

I suddenly realize that I've never seriously contemplated the what ifs surrounding Silvertear Falls. It must be years since I've thought of it as anything but "where all the rivers meet". As of 3.45, I might even go as far as to hazard a guess that it's where the corporeal world is closest to Hydaelyn and/or The Sea.
It's painted many different ways. Some call it a great concentration of aether, some say it is the origin of all water and magic, some say it is the center of the world, some claim that all aether should pass through the falls when returning to the land. It is home to a "mythical" energy, a "spiritual" energy; its importance has been part of legend going back to the first legends we have. Not Cid, not Erik, not Gaius van Baelsar questioned the claims.
I've always just though of it as "the great confluence", perhaps even the cradle of life.
I'm just confused about why there was a seal on it that spat copypasta Ifrit and Titan everywhere when it broke. I never did understand that part, lol. Perhaps, like the Cid / Goggles incident, it was visual metaphor showing that these concentrations of aether flowing through the fertile (read: prayer and faith infused) lands of Eorzea would inevitably lead to a rash of deiforms.
Of course, if I haven't thought to question it in years, there's a good chance I've been thinking about it wrong the whole time, too.
Regardless, I'll have an eye out for it.
I love all these titles. It is on, Daenerys.
I used to use all sorts of silly titles and pomp when the lore community was tiny. Proclaiming yourself Lore King felt like proclaiming yourself Emperor of the Playground on Route 5. Sometimes its feels kind of wistful that I can't do that anymore without worrying the tongue-in-cheek regalia will make me look like I take myself even a little seriously, lol.

When I read Route 5 I immediately thought of Pokemon. Is that a good or a bad thing?
