There are male viera in Ivalice as well.

You'd almost think Miqo'te were all female if NPC's didn't exist. :P

I like cute girls as much as the next person, but all I ever see in-game already are female Miqo'te in bikinis. Viera would not bring diversity unless you count differently shaped ears.

I believe the main reason why people want to have Viera implemented into the game, stems from a Player Poll which Yoshida-san published in 2011/2012 as an inquiry to see what the players would like to see in 2.0.

Mammalian demi-beastmen proved to be the most desired new race, though I wonder if they received an unfair advantage because I dropped the name “Viera.” For some reason, reptilians are relatively popular among French players, at 18%. On the whole, races of mixed heritage are equally sought after across all regions.

In contrast with other MMORPGs, I’m seeing a trend towards…shall we say, FF-ness? Ours being a Japanese game, the result seems to tell us that players are prioritizing cuteness, something which I noted with great interest.

As I’m sure you’ll appreciate, adding a completely new race is not a decision to be made lightly. But rest assured that your feedback will factor greatly into our consideration!

Yoshida has mentioned that he didn’t really want to implement the Viera as a race in the game, but he used the name “Viera” within the poll to give people an idea what kind of race he was referring to with the “Mammalian demi-beastmen”. At this point, I personally would like to see more customization options within the character creator, rather than introducing another race. Perhaps more clans for each of the existing race, with greater variation in physical build and appearance (like mentioned in the list above).

When they are considering to add a new race, i would like to see something that’s more like an actual Reptilian (Draconian/Lizardman) or Mammal beastmen (Wolfmen/Moomba/Werewolf), rather than demi-beastmen (since we already have the Miq’ote and the Au ra).

If the majority of the player population requests for the addition of the viera race, and if a good portion of the player base intend on playing as viera, then the addition of viera is worth considering.

Could have fooled me. Most - if not all - of the notable and/or playable viera shown are women.
