Returning to FFXIV, torn between BRD, SMN or sticking to my old SCH

    Hello again FFXIV's community !

First of all I'd like to apologize for any mistake in english. I'm writing this post as ideas come to my mind.

I've left FF 14 a few months ago (around 3.2 or so). And I got back to wow as a healer in mythic raid (mistweaver monk lover).
But with the Uni', relationship and so on, I decided that it was more reasonable to play a bit less, and I was afraid I couldn't have that fun in WoW.
I know I'd have a greater time chilling in Eorzea

But now that I have returned in my ex CL (and some IRL friends in it), they have a hell lot of healers.

I've only played SCH so far and always been excellent with it (because I only knew how to handle the fights with it, so managing cooldowns and the pet wasn't a big deal with macros).

But after doing some Mythic Raids in WoW, I had a look at savage runs of Alexander and found the fights a lot more dynamic and stressful than the normal ones (and I loved this feeling).
But two things are bothering me a little :
    - I don't feel like i'd enjoy always dps and spend more time dps than healing in most fights. (Well it isn't entirely true because on most AS fights, healers dps essentially the first 3 mins and then almost only heal from what I have seen)
    - On Zodiark there are so much WHM than healers spots are often taken.

That is why I'm eventually thinking of switching to dps.
Because I know that rotations and priority systems in FF XIV are complex and I definitely love challenging classes.

I ended up watching some logs, and being torn between :
    - SMN (which seem to be godlike in AoE and still one of the strongest in single target). But I put all my points in spirit
    - BRD (VERY GOOD bards seem pretty rare and I think that this class has a very good potential)

-> I tried MCH because people told me it was hard to play and I wanted to play this "unpopular class", but I did not like this RNG system.
-> I saw that BLM has probably one of the most complex rotation, but i didn't feel like becoming a turret ^^

If anyone could confirm, and dissipate any of my doubts on healers (at a higher level), or help me choose a dps class, I'd be really happy !

Have a good day Eorzea !

Nb : didn't know if I had to post this in DPS or healers section...

Hmm since the last stat weight update both smn and brd common builds are about hitting hard (1st sub stat crit) and being fast (2nd sub stat sps/sks). i guess your right at least on Zodiark i haven't seen good Brds for a while. and heading for their full potential is kinda of deleting the whole playstyle you are used to until 52 out of your mind. same thing for smns your playstyle will change with DW trance mode from doting to raw burst dmg. so both cls will end up in very different playstyle as you are starting them with. if you are already used in micromanaging a pet i would give it a try as smn. after all smn is my main cls im currently building up my brd as well ;p

looking for a challenge you might get in touch with the Mnk... remember the "hitting fast and strong" thing? Mnks are the reincarnation of "DMG"... their utility skills, stat-weight, gear and base points are heading for just one goal: 35% crits in longtermfights - which currently is the maximum crits can push your dps for. Their rotations need a lot of practice cause of their different stances and positioning but if you manage them you will be always on top of any other dps cls.

You can buy a certain somthing at your Grand company to reset all points and can switch from 35 MND to 35 INT. Doesn't cost too many seals either.

And how is the BRD rotation in term of complexity ?
If becoming a great BRD is challenging, I think I'll definitely give it a try

BRD doesn't have a real rotation, it's more of a priority system. Starting with your opener that'll do massive damage and then you're basically down to heavy shots until you get stuff up again or have to reapply your dots via iron jaws or have to refresh your straight shot buff or straight shot proc'd. So yea you're basically using 3 GCD's.

yeah and you have to learn about other cls skills as well... for maximizing your song-utility. f.e. there was a change that Ifrit (and Titan) make magical dmg now... so they are buffed by Requiem... i doubt that much Brds are aware of that yet... aside from that yeah it's about priority... not about a constant rotation.

If it were me I'd probably try out SMN since it's "closer to home" from SCH. Then I'd give it a fair shake in the content I wanted to run, and after a while honestly ask myself if DPS is as fun, or even more fun, than healer. If you think healer is more fun, stick with it. Do noooooooot play a class you don't enjoy as much, it just ain't worth it.

That is why I tell you that I want to try things as a dps to see how much I like it.
SCH makes you think when you play, so I want to have the feeling I think when I play.

Maybe MCH is better in that point that BRD then ^^ (but I find BRD weapons so cool xD)

Then go BRD, you won't regret it

Pure DPS have nothing on their mind other than dps, dps dps.. While support roles like BRD, MCH and NIN have other things to worry about.

Pure dps will not give you manta even if they had it. They will not go out of their way to give you dragon kick or use skills to recover TP. Simply they will not do anything outside of their dps rotation unless asked to. While support roles must use their abilities whether asked to or not. Because if they failed to do so, they will simply get "It is your job, you should read the situation and know what to do without people telling you."

c'mon Yeol... this is just as subjective as your post in the other thread... all DPS got utility skills - you can't differ them to pure dps and support dps - you should differ them in experienced (everybody should use their utility skills somehow) or ignorant (not using them cause of what ever reason)
