Some quests in HW say you have been somewhere for weeks (like Cid when you meet him in the SoC) or that moons have passed (like Aymeric in his invitations) so there is a loose timeframe we can reference.

A year per expansion would fit nicely, maybe another year divide between the final quest of 2.0 and the final quest of 2.55, anyhow something easy to remember that is definite enough for us to work with, but also loose enough for people to let their imagination run wild.

I recently did the Kettle Zenith quest and something interresting happened in the dialogue with Gerolt.
At the end of the questline, his apprentice said the order for the kettle has been canceled 2 years ago.
Gerolt then stated it was around that time we came to him to make our very first relic, and that's why he couldn't complet the order.

I don't now know when arrived the Kettle Zenith quest ( Maybe 2.5, 2.55? ), but that mean Heavensward roughtly began 2 years after the death of the black wolf, more or less the time between the patch release and 3.0 events.

Eh...no. He's actually referencing real time in that dialog (been two years since release at that point). Its only a month or three between when AAR starts and Heavensward starts (and was confirmed that between the end of 2.55 and 3.0 it was only a few days, maybe a week or two), and another month or two between the start of 3.0 and when Nidhogg finally dies (its hard to say how much time passes between his death and the next quest, but some period of time does)
