SPOILER WARNING: Ok, I understood the lore of the PotD lvl 50 boss - but after that?

Ok you have? So read on :-)

The PotD lvl 50 boss was a bit of a heartstring puller. I now have her as my faithful little companion that can stay with me. Short cut-scenes by necessity during the 1-50 progress, but very well done with (yet another) sad ending to a character.

So, onto 51-100 and more cut-scenes with.......err......with....something.
Now the quality of the cut-scenes is very good, and I've taken my time in reading through the lines, and hoped the level 100 end clip would help me figure it out.

But still none the wiser. So lore wise can someone help out please.
What the heck is the 51-100 cut-scene character about?

He's a boss in Final Fantasy tactics ogre..... that's all. The palace of the dead is based off it.

The guy in question is a character from Tactics Ogre and he's trying to find a way to bring the dead back to life so that he can become immortal and cheat death.

I've once seen Spoiler with pictures about PoD before 3.4 came out, which said some dead NPC in the quests, such as Foulques, may show up as enemies. We guessed and expected a lot about who would appear, including the possibility we see Haurchefant again.
However in our current patch, except Edda and the final boss,there are nothing but monsters.
I don't know what finally made the dead NPC abandoned, but the cutscene on 100th floor of current version really didn't move me. If they have something more to show us, such as the NPC above and their stories, PoD would not be boring like this.

It is kinda hard to feel anything for a character that you haven't really dealt with. The end cut scene had me near to tears but that's because I already knew him from the original series.

Your idea recalls me of Silent Hill 3, in which the heroine killed monsters all the way and finally was told all the monsters were human beings, it was a kind of illusion which made her take them as monsters.
The difference is, monsters in Silent Hill gave people strong impression while the PoD monsters are just boring...and I have to say it is the story, not the appearance itself, makes the huge difference between the two. SH just wants to scare people, but our PoD story...seems want us moved? No it really can't be that moving...

Edit: Ouch, it seems the final boss said something like that but I skipped...Okay it would scare me a bit if I had not played SH 3.

Go play Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP/Wii/Wii U). The character of Nybeth Obdilord will more more sense then. He's a horribly tragic character, like many of the NPCs we meet in the Palace of the Dead.
