Hearing that your retainer has sold something is quite great I agree..

But would you agree it would be equally sufficient if this text was only placed into the chat log, instead of the center area of the screen? Instead of both places? Honestly you only need one method of receiving this information and via text in the chat, is quite sufficient i'd say.

Auto hide chat log is a system that is in place in XI, as well as was in place in XIV 1.0.

The chat log automatically removes itself from the screen after a set amount of time without any text being newly displayed.

For example, in XI, the chat box slowly minimize as no new information is being displayed in it. If no one is chatting in Linkshells, or say or party chat, and you arent in battle, just maybe exploring an area, it will hide itself so that no text or box is visible at all after say 15 seconds or so. Depending on your settings.

In XIV 1.0 the box would fade away instead of minimizing. After say 15 seconds of nothing being said/displayed the entire chat box would disappear from the screen.

The reason for this, is to hide un-needed UI elements under certain circumstances to enhance, and create a more relevant, experience.

Also in XIV 1.0, the mini map would disappear as you accepted quests and were speaking to the quest giver. (NPC)

Then.. if anyone sent you a tell, or someone said something in say close enough to you, or what have you, the chat log would then reappear so that you would be able to read it.
