How did you make the 10 million gil to begin with?

As the old saying goes, sometimes need to have money to make money. I grew a lot of Jute over the last few months. Housing demo happened and I made a bunch of rugs with that Jute. Also had one of my retainers constantly gathering Bamboo. Made some fountains and Magic Stable Brooms. It's been a profitable weekend (5+ mil and counting).

Crafters make their gil back by producing HQ goods using NQ materials. A good crafting rotation goes a long way. On my server, I produce HQ leveling gear for 51-60 because there's a lot of completionists out there who want all 60s before 4.0, and they need the gear to get them there. It's a high volume, medium revenue, high profit margin market. If I can turn out a 150K gil body piece for 30K in materials, I consider it worth my time.

I think I've dropped about 20 million gil on my Ironworks crafting gear, and I'm still not done.... mostly on blown up materia *sob*
