Lvl 38 Main Storyline....Primals and Summoning

Apologies if this has been brought up before!

Now, I know Yoshi-P has stated in at least one interview or live video that he wants the primals to be able to be summoned in the game (by a free company I believe?). But this doesn't really tie into the lore of the storyline, as per:

Ifrit: Yet the Paragon has entreated that I spare you, and so I shall─on one condition.
Ifrit: Vow that you shall forsake the summoning of Another. Do so, and your sins will be absolved. Refuse me, and your soul will burn for eternity.
Amalj'aa: On your knees, heathens, and give your oath! In the name of Ifrit, Almighty Lord of the Inferno!
Amalj'aa: Almighty Lord of the Inferno!
Mita: You're not serious? You think me alluring enough to attract a god, do you!?
    Mita: But how!?
    [...]
Mita: Well...I do hope you were listening, too, because there's something I want to know. Is there any truth to Ifrit's suggestion that we can summon our own primal?
Almxio: The woken one asks a difficult question. The answer, this one knows not.
    Zoxio: Nor this one, unfortuitously.
Zoxio: But even if the woken one could summon a primal, this one would advise against such folly.
Almxio: Those ones who violate the barrier betwixt corporeal and aetherial are transformed.
Almxio: Minds are clouded. Hearts are hardened. Souls are darkened!
Zoxio: Minds are clouded. Hearts are hardened. Souls are darkened!
Mita: Your sudden concern for our well-being is very moving. That said, we have seen Ifrit's influence for ourselves... Even if this power is ours to manipulate, it may yet be a taboo best left unchallenged.
So either the "summoning" class is going to be related to the <<DARK>> keyword Yoshi-P also referenced in his interviews, or something else is amiss, no?

How does it not? Whatever the story behind the fight to be granted permission to summon them will be, I assure you it will tie in summoning them (for example, beating them into submission).

I just meant that the storyline makes it seem like primals should not be summoned, as it is either forbidden (tribes) or causes mental disturbances (sylphs). Neither group seems even the slightest bit interested in actually using the primals.

The tribes actually do summon (and worship) the primals, though.

It will not be a class or job that summons the primals. As for the SMN job that may come later it was said they will summon lesser avatars to help them out and such and will not summon primals. Pretty much your free company beats the snot out of a primal and forces it to submit giving you a special item to call on them when needed.

Though that last part there is mostly my own thoughts on it... it seems the best way to go about it unless they force free companies to have to have a SMN to call on a primal... but I don't think they will do that.

    The cat is bemused =-.-=

Naturally, spoilers ahead. Though I figure most people would get that coming to this thread.

I think it makes perfect sense, honestly. As noted in the quest by Ifrit, we have the ability to summon the primals. I think this ties into whatever the Echo really is. If you remember, the Garleans have branded all those gifted with the Echo as allied with the Beastribes, and are to be put to death. The Garleans are also on a crusade to destroy the primals.

One can simply infer that the echo is the key to our ability to summon the primals. Now, the whole issue of the primals corrupting the minds of those that summon them is easily explained. When you do the Ifrit hard mode quest, you're told that you can only remain within the Bowl of Embers for 30 minutes before you risk corruption. That's the reasoning for the timer in lore, and after 30 minutes a magic spell that was placed on you removes you from the Bowl of Embers so you don't go mad.

With that knowledge, I think it's safe to assume that the Echo also boosts the resistance to this corruption. Keep in mind we don't summon the Primals for hours on end, it's a short duration. We'll summon them, they'll whoop some ass, and then vanish with the pact complete.

Such a short duration won't corrupt our characters, as they have that innate ability to resist it because of the Echo. The primals simply won't be around long enough to do any serious damage to our characters, just like in the Ifrit battle.

This makes sense. I didn't make the connection at the time ^^

In the original blend of FFXIV, it was very "FF6 FF7 FF8" styled, in that characters could mix and match allot, and anyone could summon.
I personally assume and think this was the general idea to FF14, go the opposite of jobs route, and be more like the FFs they got rid of them.

So in short, The idea of a "group" of non SMNs summoning the Primals, seems the most likely, but with yoshida, who knows if a SMN is needed to be present.
