    SSS Idea for Improvement

Wasn't sure whether or not this was the right area for this or say... Other Battle Systems or something, but eh..

Was just thinking about SSS and it's overall lack of helpful feedback for the specific fights it exists for. or it's actual uselessness for Swipe and Reprisal/Blood Price procs and the like... So I've had the idea mulling around in my head and I'm now offering it up to YOU, my dear forum goers, to RIP IT TO SHREDS! Y'all are good at that, right? Right!

So the thought in question was to change the SSS system, or rather add onto it. Why not have SSS actually replicate the fights/phases in question? Plop us all down in the actual duty (scaled for solo/your role, of course)?

This would not only give us an actual indication if we have the DPS under the mechanics, but allow us to actually SEE and PRACTICE the mechanics beforehand. Plus, allowing the bosses to actually hit back (if even for 0 damage) would allow PLD and DRK to gauge their damage while tanking. Failed mechanics can even apply damage down debuffs or the like.

Or there can be "shades" or the like that imitade the other roles for melee DPS to get positionals and the like.

I'm not sure what kind of resources SE would have to allocate to make seperate instances scaled down like that, though. Would probably be overly demanding with Stormblood and 3.5 on the horizon. Just a lazy thought from a filthy casual

This idea could work if done corectly however it would be rather difficult to make solo version of a fight without makeing it to easy or taking away frome the experience of figuring out the mechanics with your static /friends

practicing the fights solo destroys the whole purpose of an MMO. practice solo the whole time, then just come together for 10 mins for the actual kill? i don't think so.

but such ideas come up when the community only wants experienced players, when they leave groups after 2 fails, or kick people...

The fact is, not everyone wants to assist players who don't know mechanics. Doing this allows players to participate with other players more often, which is the point of an MMO. Afterall, this isn't Monstern Hunter where boss mechanics are random and survivability is based on reflexes and instinct. This game is more memory based when it comes to bosses. Improvisation only comes in certain player conditions (not enough dps, 1 healer goes down, tank missed a pull) thats when things slightly turns to trying to keep up with the motion of battle and regaining coordination.

If they fixed SSS to be more helpful like this that'd be a real improvement for the casual and raid community. It doesn't have to spoil phases either. Each phase can only be seen once reached if thats the case, but I'd prefer knowing the whole thing. Perhaps some sort of system that has us recieving knowledge from another player of what they've seen so they can practice it in SSS. Thats my two cents anyway

they can also make a better version of the novice training, like say call it advance combat training and have it test the awareness of the player (advanced dodging, rngbased aoes/attacks, etc.), introduce many of the reused mechanics (like gaze, tether intercept, stop/donothing from a10s, etc.) and the like, and dps check or enrage.

and then give players a title for clearing the new training course as proof they can atleast adapt to mechanics and do decent dps. they can show this as proof when they enter PF so the party can be sure they are competent enough.

Why not just make the hall of the novice stuff, which is meant to teach players how to play, mandatory to progress?

Hall of Novice is for basics of playing an mmo. If you played WoW or other basic mmos before that'd just be slowing down the beginning of the game even more if doing that stuff was mandatory.

Way to much work for something that gets forgotten later on. It's best for it to just be a means to see if your DPS is up to snuff. Then it's up for you to actually practice in the content.

If they had to create it for each SSS, think about all the mechanics they would have to make for each fight, it would be like making another fight entirely cause they would have to try and practice for each "role" they couldn't just have it set for 1 role.
