Thancred pllllssss Q.Q
Part of my work as a school band director involves me making my own (instrumental) arrangements of music and stuff, and whenever the opportunity arises I always return to the music of the Final Fantasy series. This is my own arrangement, for symphonic band (google that up if you're not sure what we're made of) of Nobuo Uematsu's wonderful Twilight Over Thanalan, played at a local cosplay festival early 2012, in sync with a video of my little adventures that I made myself (eeks at bad editing!).
For those of you who may be familiar with what I do, I largely do my arrangements by ear... sometimes I do get help from sheet music made and posted by others on the web but sometimes the information is not as accurate... it's always back to listening to the original soundtrack for the hundredth time.
You may or may not like it, but here it is anyway.

I'm currently at work expanding this arrangement into a larger melody that will include three of my other favourite tracks from FF XIV... Seven Jesters (actually the Good King Moggle battle theme), that final Nael von Darnus battle theme, and of course... Answers!
(if you hunt around my Youtube page I've done medleys for FF X and FF XIII as well)

I'm still learning myself, having only started the other week with no prior experience, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Abuse the hell out of drop shadows and inner shadows, as well as dodge and burn. That will definitely help bring out some luminosity and give everything artificial lighting, since most of it won't exist in an actual screenshot.
Being wary of the actual setting of the screenshot helps as well. For example, this was in Ul'dah at night, so I gently eased the tone towards something orange-ish to imitate lantern light. Sapping a bit of contrast from the image can also soften things up and help make the dodge tool pop a bit more, where as adding contrast will really flush the colors out and if you add too much, start to alias and muddy up the image pretty badly. Light really helps set the mood overall, though, and that's important with modifying screenshots.
Really, I tend to just learn most from either having a friend give me some random tip, or by just playing with tools randomly.

Ahh thank you for your tips!! The screenshot edit looks wonderful ^-^
Usually instead of the dodge tool, if there's a certain color I'm looking to reflect off say a shield (If the subject is in an area where there's a strong blue light) I'll set a soft paintbrush to 8~14 opacity and set it to color dodge, that helps me to get the effect I want incase dodge tool lightens with a color I don't find ambient or fitting ;;, same with burn tool lol D: But as a painter I find myself leaning more towards the color dodge/color burn method on brushes to get my desired effects.. I think it's a strong force of habit lol.
I think your edit looks lovely, you should definitely post some more sometime, they look great!
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
I agree, if anything, to see his sexy hyur in his sig >.>

Hopefully this applies to this thread:

Didn't like the Hyur image for the summoner AF so I thought what would it look like on the concept art for the Male Miqo'te and set about applying the same shape/form and design to the charachter.
Sort of worked.
