Why did they feel the need to change names? Those original names even make sense..I sometimes dont understand the localization team..I mean this is a fantasy game with NPCs that have lots of different and strange names..

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Are the Miqo'te naming guidelines not a thing in the Japanese version?

The Japanese names in this particular case can more or less fit the Keeper guidelines; Kuro is pronounced differently to Khloe but recognisable as more-or-less the same word (Kuro is クロ while Khloe would be クロエ). Perhaps it's a pet name or something. They could have written it any way they liked in roman letters to make it sound more Miqo'te-style rather than like a real name but that's the team's call.

Likewise, they could have written Shiro in a way that fit the guidelines in English easily enough - I'm sure Keeper names exist which are more-or-less close to Shiro phonetically - but they decided that making a cutesy pair of names was more important than consistency between languages. I wish the localisation team could occasionally remember that a lot of people play in mixed language groups
