Going by official art for IV After Years, Dwarves would just be typical fantasy proportions, if not slightly taller. I mean, I guess we could just add dwarves for the niche, but it's certainly not original.

Burmecians practically exist in form as Qiqurn. They would just be slightly more human-like.

There's also a niche for the little humanoid critter type, sure. But as the argument for "elezens with bunny ears" is made, they are just more lithe lalafell with fuzzy faces.

Ronso I guess just taking femroe skeletons and adding a tail. Male roe are far too meaty, but female roe fit the proportions of Ronso, who didn't really have a significant difference in stature between male and female. Also just fuzzy faces, and obnoxious horns.

The Qu is probably the only real head scratcher... but to be honest, how many people would actually willingly play a Qu outside of a brief chuckle to justify the development time for it? I doubt even the devs would be serious about making it.

At least with Viera, and not a fan of it either, you'd get mileage out of the effort cause people will clearly play it.

I'd rather half-breeds over shoehorned races from other games in the franchise. Roegadyn-Lalafell = Dwarf. Miqo'te-Au Ra = some kind of abomination.
I spit my drink out reading the abomination hahahaha. I think half breeding could be really cool though, so many options and variations unlocked at that point. The one eyed lore bandit can't find my eyebrows if I listen to my non-highlander parents!! <3

I'll not lie, aside from that characters existence there is no word if or when we may get that option. One can only hope such a small change would be entertained and one day released.

My apologies if that picture was indeed considered a spoiler, after a year and many having leveled to 60, i assumed this was well known information.

Ronso (FFX) - Uses modified roegadyn skeleton

Moogle (Ivalice) - Though naturally called something else, Uses lalafell skeleton (my favourite)

Burmecian (FFIX) - Uses Mi'qote skeleton (not likely because of nose and feet, but still more interesting than viera, who also has feet problems)

Qu (FFIX) - Uses new skeleton (ok, maybe not this one...)
With the exception of Dwarves, every race in that list would function as a Beast Tribe in the setting of FFXIV. Moogles already do, as a matter of fact. Burmecian already has a close counterpart with the Qiqurn. I think when people keep saying, 'Unique,' in terms of a new race, they keep forgetting about the fact that Beast Tribes are the enemies, not allies. And no, just because some small off-shoots become friends does not justify the addition of Beast Tribe races as playable.

I'm just being a realist. The dwarf looks like an incredibly generic dwarf like you'd see in LotR Fantasy novels, and why would they need to create a new skeleton for something that's already available in game? Just make the lalafel less pudgy, add a beard, and boom, you've got your dwarf. Dwarves are one of the most staple, generic races in ANY Fantasy setting, hence why I'd prefer to see Viera instead. At least Viera are, without a doubt, FF! I'm really not sure where your getting 'size of a miqote' when dwarves are typically no taller than 4 feet. That's more comparable to a lala than a miqo.

Using "generic" as an argument is pretty poor, especially when FFXIV will take away everything that makes Viera unique and interesting (making them generic. Animal ears are already a thing in this game, as are horn-ears). They'll be a generic elf, but with rabbit ears.

So new and interesting. Like the Au Ra!

Counter point: Dwarves have an absolutely massive showing spanning hundreds of franchises in a variety of mediums, and in a large majority of them, they're nearly identical, hence the term 'Generic'. Conversely, Viera are an FF specific race, with very little representation in any capacity, barring two, maybe 3 games.

In the case of the former, 'Generic' is a valid complaint against their inclusion, as the spectrum of media They're involved in is quite broad.

Using 'generic' to describe a race that hardly has any showing at all as a complaint, especially in regards to a race whose mere presence defines a massive genre, is being deeply and totally unaware of what the term means, and is a truly dishonest way of using the term.

I'm still going to argue that Viera are technically elves (specifically Post-Tolkien elves) with an Ivalice spin to them. If rabbit ears are enough to not make them generic, then just put rabbit ears on the dwarves and call it a day.

Post-Tolkien fantasy elves (popularized by the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game) are often portrayed as being wiser and more beautiful than humans, with sharper senses and perceptions as well. They are said to be gifted in magic, mentally sharp and lovers of nature, art, and song. They are often skilled archers.
Kinda sounds like a Viera, no? SE would be better off just making a third clan of Elezen that doesn't have a noticeably long neck.
