Honestly, if they are just going to add the "cute" version I'd personally rather they don't bother at all. FF12 Viera, or nothing.

They undoubtedly will. A significant reason they drifted away from a more beastial look for Au Ra is due to the perception JP has towards it: i.e. they don't like them at all. Since the NA/EU side also fancy a more cutesy look, they went with that.

It is very funny how willfully ignorant people are being here. There is no debate for tall fierce Viera or cute small ones and tribes are not the answere in so far as the current "cute' versions are being asked for.

i will not pretend to know everything that a dev team has planed nor do i have any proof but that which is plain to my own eyes.

Every race (even Roegadyn... eventually) have children npc's in the game, why in good sense would the proposed Viera be any different? Children should not now not ever be an option as a playable character. It brings with it issues that not only insure censorship, but also demands explanation as to why characters that appear to be children are being put in circumstances or scenarios that no child should be in.

Cute is one thing, loli, underaged, near child like models is a whole other can of worms that need not be opened.


I do not want this. I dislike this immensely. I think this is borderline disgusting. I do not want this in Final Fantasy XIV. Give me Adult Viera as shown in Final Fantasy XII. If this is what you want Tera Online is just around the corner for console launch.

SE has gone way out of their way to give Lalafell alternative gear sets for many of the more revealing options to avoid the revolting aspect of a childish race having "adult" gear.

The best possible trade off for the clan idea is to have the smaller clan share those same gear options with Lalafell.

The other option is to just go with traditional Viera, since every region has a large group of support.

We're just now stuck with one short race, which could be seen as a problem.

I don't like loli-culture either, but I don't think "looks like children" = "being children," especially since we already have freaking Lalafell (unless you have a problem with them, too). I don't think the majority of people who would appreciate the smaller, "cuter" iteration of a new race are advocating for playing as children per sé, but simply like/want a smaller, more lithe-bodied option to play as, especially since that option doesn't exist for any male characters of any race (barring Lalafell, who are...a bit more than just small and lithe lol).

Not to mention, what exactly do you mean when you say "children"? If you're talking about any character that is "underage," then I guess you must have a problem with 16-year old Alphinaud and Alisae (who, might I add, are extremely small-statured for mid-late teenaged Elezen). And like...a vast portion of main characters, male and female, in the entire Final Fantasy series. I mean, if that is the case, then that's your opinion and mindset, which is your prerogative. But I think calling a bunch of people "willfully ignorant" is pretty harsh.

Elezan don't hit their final growth spurt til their early 20s, thus why the twins are so tiny.

Basically, the worry is more that gross people would take advantage of the fact that we have "tween" built characters and dress them up in the same way we can the many adult avatar builds. Obviously it's not a real kid, but no one wants to see a bunch of avatars with that body type running around in sexed up gear.

At that point, SE has to step back and consider their message and artistic integrity, since it's all about framing when anything with kids is involved. Fiction or not. That other MMO doesn't do that, and has thus garnered a negative reputation.

This is something actively considered with designing around Lalafell, since the race is so baby-like. It's open stated in the artbooks as much. Be modest, be cute, since it looks like a baby.
