Unlikely to ever have playable beastmen due to laws of Ul'dah.I don't think beastmen like Lupin will be added as a playable race. I know I would never play as a beastmen. I'm completely uninterested in beastmen being a playable race, but I'm not particularly opposed to their addition later on in the future, either. I still don't think it'd happen, and I don't care either way. There's something I've been wondering though; how would hairstyles work for the Lupin? I think it'd look kind of silly. In any case, I'll be happy as long as they add viera.
I support this.
See, I have the same fear about the first one. I don't want 'cute' and I'm terrified that the chibi bunny option would be the ONLY option (I would be perfectly okay if they were two tribes with warriors as one option and cutsies as another but that is a TON of dev work). As for your second reason, sadly, I don't think we'll ever get a race that isn't 90% human. If the issue with Viera really is the feet we will never see anything remotely more drastic, especially not something with a muzzle or a semi-inhuman body shape. As for why I want Lupin to be playable... one big reason is that I'm tired of "cute" races (and I'm kinda worried Viera may suffer this). Another reason being I just want to see something that isn't yet another 90-95% human with some animal bits here and there (at least the Lupin have a wolf head and the one piece of official art for them is adorable).
Also, there's actually a win hidden in the Viera for those who do want more bestial races. IF the devs DO make Viera feet high heeled...wouldn't that make the necessary skeleton rig to offer such an option to races in the future available? With all the shoes in game remodeled to fit Viera feet could we see the textures warped a bit to fit other types of bestial feet? If they do the work now, that's one less thing they have to do for another race later. I really do hope that the feet come into play for exactly this reason, just like I hope later on down the line we get even more varied racial options.
Or at least a wee bit more customization for the races we do end up with.

And body hair (or fur, I guess. Think about it, Lupin would be the only race to have body hair, something which I think every race should have the option of having) and a tail that isn't tied to the body-piece (seriously, why is the tail attached to the hideous body and not the pants that are literally called a werewolf tail). The heck people, SE could just release a Lupin mask and people wanting to be one can just cosplay one, no need to make it a race. Unless a lot of furry loving people keep asking for one that doesn't have human features but I still see Viera more possible than Lupin atm... seriously, a mask. :P
Anyway, Gold Saucer rabbit ears for faux-Viera.
I see the win, which is why with some of my arguments, I'm actually pushing toward the redesign of every foot gear for them and arguing against those who would rather have them with human feet, or have unique feet, but the gear is 'hidden' for whatever silly reason. I still don't want Viera, but if they're going to be a playable race, then SE needs to go all the way with them. Give them their unique feet and hands (they're kinda unique?). Don't just make them an usamimi and/or Miqo'te/Au Ra clone.

It's pretty disingenuous to tell ppl to just use obviously fake bunny ears and complain when you have some pretty decent fox/wolf ears and even a tail costume. Also trying to politicize viera feet as some kind of political tool to bolster support for monstrous races seems like a bad idea. Final Fantasy is a continually self-referential series after all and viera makes sense, some monsters as warriors of light does not make much sense as a reference point to the series. You have more chance to see a bangaa or moogle I think than orcs and goblins and werewolves and nagas and kobolds.
Here are some unique viera features I found in the other games since ppl say they don't have any, asterisk on possible real rabbit features to import unique to FFXIV.
- Ears (straight, *flopped, multiple earrings, *animated in emotes)
- Tails (plumed, *ball, *tucked, armored tail for paladin/warrior/dragoon/dark knight)
- Nose (short, colored tip/nostrils, *animal style, *whiskers)
- Eyes (large, *black sclera, *red sclera)
- Mouth (big/full lips, *bunny teeth when talking, toggle veil)
- Face (different base features/look from current races)
- Body (Pear shape, low SHR, high LBR, lithe build and lanky legs)
- tattoo (full body on arms, legs and collar bone)
- Hands (beastly, long nails)
- Feet (long, beast shaped, toggle stilettos)
- Unique Hair Styles (long, down to their ankles)
- Animations (*hopping run/surprise/cheet/etc, *sleep while standing, *laying/crouching /sit cpose)
- Subraces (known race names: veena, rava, feol. Make #1 dark skin, white ears, and highlander tall female but midlander male. Make #2 fair skinned, hair/skin color shaded ears, both male and female Au Ra female height equally)
There is a lot of stuff they have to draw on for art direction and not being a copy of another race. There are actually probably too many unique features for viera to fit it all into a single FFXIV race.
Hats can use holes like miqotes or flop out the side/back like viera onion knight for helmets.
The helmet has white feathers on top, the hair is white, the ears are brown flopping out the back of the helmet.

And yet in FFV, there is a wolfman (Kelger) who was a Warrior of Dawn (defeated Exdeath). Besides, compared to other Beastmen in XIV, Lupin aren't really all that monstrous. It's pretty disingenuous to tell ppl to just use obviously fake bunny ears and complain when you have some pretty decent fox/wolf ears and even a tail costume. Also like I said in my previous post, the tail should be attached to the legs (again, literally called Werewolf Tail) and not the hideous body.
Oh so you mean I cannot support Viera and hope that they do the feet so that we might also see Burmecian and possibly further unique races? It's not political at all, it's stating a fact I think a lot of people overlook in their 'don't want bunny people' argument. If they do the work on the skeleton rig now then it becomes possible for them to use it in the future for other things. If they redesign the foot ware now it means that they have the option when considering future races. Am I saying it so that people will support the Viera, no, but it deserves to be pointed out. It's pretty disingenuous to tell ppl to just use obviously fake bunny ears and complain when you have some pretty decent fox/wolf ears and even a tail costume.
