    Skirmish from 1.x idea

    (Posting for a friend, she had an idea on FB so I wanted to share it here )

    So just came up with an idea, and was thinking how cool it would be to bring back Skirmish from FFXIV pre-Realm Reborn in a way.

    Like there can be a duty that is like a 5-Boss run, and the bosses would be randomized and from different dungeons. They can get creative with it like they did with Palace of the Dead, but I think just a Boss mode kinda thing would be awesome. Thoughts?

    DPS race would be awesome as well, which is what Skirmish was sorta about. Would be a nice fun way to run some content that isn't predictable. I mean, it also helps those get used to some of the dungeon bosses, where they can try tanking and other party roles without wasting too much time getting to them in each dungeon.

    To add to this idea:

    1. Boss Rush (Normal) can be a rush of five bosses that are suitable in a free-roam setting akin to the original FFXIV 1.23 Skirmish. One boss is on the field and the other 4 bosses will spawn one at a time based on a timer. (if one boss isn't dealt with in a timely manner, another boss spawns, which makes this idea focused on DPS race.)

    2. Boss Rush (Hard) - [Unlocked by completing Boss Rush Normal] Hard mode can be a rush of 5 bosses where the timer of spawns is at a closer interval, though the item level sync can be adjusted higher.

    3. Boss Rush (Extreme) - [Unlocked by completing Boss Rush Hard] Extreme mode is the true DPS race, as the timer of boss spawns is significantly decreased in the length of time.

    Rewards can be weapons like the Giantsgall weapons as well, with an item level that reflects the difficulty of the Boss Rush. Perhaps some armor as well, along with sets of glamour outfits.

    As we are on the topic, Boss Rush isn't the only idea, as it focuses more on DPS race. I also have an idea that is a little more on the strategic side.

    1. Colosseum

    So, let us finally utilize that colosseum we have in Ul'dah! Colosseum would work much like it does in Kingdom Hearts, where you go through a set of 10 battles at a time, where the tenth battle is a boss, like in Palace of the Dead (or Fifth = mid-boss, Tenth = boss). Battles will continue as far as you take them until your character runs out of health, then you have to start from the beginning. (Or if you want to make it less punishing, give a Colosseum ranking to a character and have it drop in rank, where rank determines which set of 10 battles the player can enter the instance from.) Ex. "To enter battles 21-30, your Colosseum Rank needs to be at or above 5." Just like Palace of the Dead, more battles can be added in later patches to keep the progression of Colosseum going.

    The battles themselves can go form being mindless slaughter of enemies into being tactful such as having to sleep or inflict heavy status on some enemies to make the fight go smoothly.

    That is pretty much what I have for now. Any comments or thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Oh yeah! The Colosseum would be nice to do as well...and maybe they could tie WT into it too

    I could imagine the WT requesting to do a set of ten battles for Colosseum. For Boss Rush, WT can request doing any difficulty of Boss Rush.

    The trouble is, as much as I would love to see some kind of content using the Bloodsands, it seems SE are reluctant to do so for technical reasons - the same reason why they moved the Waking Sands from it's original 1.0 location in Ul'dah to Vesper Bay, and that was to avoid creating a situation that encourages players to idle there - it's bad enough as it is with the Quicksand being the 'meeting place' for the game (or at least on Balmung it is). Having a battle event content in the Colosseum would just make that worse and thus all the lag and server stability issues that go with that.

    Hence as much as I love your ideas Iromi, realistically I think SE would probably have them accessible through some other location (such as the Gold Saucer) and thus the Colosseum will remain an empty arena only used for a few cutscenes.

    Ooh the Gold Saucer would work..we did have the battle arena in it in FF7 after all, I can def see that working

    Well it could just be instanced, and they already have the layout of the Colosseum, which all they would need to do is set up barriers.

    What I believe Enkidoh means is people piled up OUTSIDE the instance- in this case in the area outside of the Gladiator trainer in Ul'dah.

    Think of it like PotD and Quarrymill. PotD is instanced, but getting INTO said instanced area is not. now take Quarrymill and plop it down into Ul'dah. Making a server chug in a major city with the MSQ/market/class trainers/DoH+DoL trainers.... not exactly a great place to have your servers strained

    Now if you mean instancing the entire zone just to get into the coliseum? Well that would strain the servers even more- to the point it would cost more to even implement than they would gain for plopping it out.

    I would want to change this. Significantly decreased spawn times... I'm thinking 3 second spawn times. And it isn't just 5 bosses, it's 5 million bosses. All with the health equivalent to that of everything in Alexanger Savage combined (so each mob's health is added to each other's to bring the roundabout health of the bosses). And with lots of one-shot mechanics.
