I can greatly recommend giving Taugrim's keybinding guide a read, should help a lot (and no need for fancy mouse/keyboards): https://taugrim.com/2011/04/07/guide...d-keybindings/
I second this. Improve your keybinds and muscle memory instead of using macros. I use a similar setup in that guide: Movement with QWE (backwards not bound) hotbar 1234 ASDF ZXCV modified with alt and shift.

Rebind the keys near your movement setup and find combinations that work for you. Everybody's different so there's no right answer.

okay I can agree keybinding works better for PC players but I play FF14 on PS4 so keybinds are more of a hinderance for me as my keyboard for texting is not in my hands when I tank (if I was a PC player for this game I would be using keybinds instead) that why I gave the marco's I use cause thats how I manage to Tank with PLD on PS4 without failing much (most of my fails are situational awareness lapses & not my macro's)

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

Also, have you considered getting a mouse with a couple extra buttons on the side? If you bind those extra buttons to hotbar slots that are out of reach, say the 7+ section, then you can use those skills quickly as well, with the added benefit of it not hindering your movement at all since it doesn't use the same hand (if you need to move ASAP to dodge something you can still activate those skills with your other hand, without having to let go of your WASD section).

Do a search on youtube for ffxiv tank macro. There is an excellent video that shows you for controller, but it can work for mouse and keyboard too. He's not asking about macros for combos guys, just ogcd moves combined with gcd moves combined in the same button, you still have to press the same button to make each move go off. It works really well and can cut your buttons down to around 15.

I too frown on most macros. I have my pld down to 32 button on ps4. Most jobs will work on the 32 button system. So you're going to have a hard time with every job

I've been able to pretty much solve my issues with all of your helpful suggestions. I've bound 1-5,Q,E,R,Z,X,C,V and got Shift and Ctrl for modifiers bound to the two buttons on the side of my mouse. It's working wonders. Thank you very much, everyone.

    PLD:
    /macroicon "Fight or Flight"
    /ac "Fight or Flight" <me>
    /ac "Bloodbath" <me>

I keep these on cooldown as much as possible when I'm main tank.

    -----

    WAR:
    /macroicon "Overpower"
    /facetarget <t>
    /ac "Overpower" <t>

It may have been fixed, but back in 2.X, if I hit Overpower while pulling mobs, strangely sometimes, Overpower hits the targeted mob (although I'm not facing it) but not the others behind it while I'm running. /facetarget <t> makes me quickly turn to the targeted mob and smack them all as I'm running towards the next group.

    /macroicon "Thrill of Battle"
    /ac "Thrill of Battle" <me>
    /ac "Convalescence" <me>

Self-explanatory. The boost of HP, plus the recovery, but the healing received potency makes me less squishy.

    -----

I have no macros on DRK.

Not macro-related, but I am at ease with the L2>R2 and R2>L2 combinations. This is Hotbar 8.

    UP: Divine Veil
    DOWN: Awareness
    LEFT: Convalescence
    RIGHT: Bulwark
    TRIANGLE: Rampart
    X: Foresight
    SQUARE: Sheltron
    CIRCLE: Sentinel

I have these on both L2 and R2, so that way, there's no mistake if I need an emergency CD. Holding L2 then holding R2 will give me the same setup if I'm holding R2 then holding L2. It sounds complicated, but in action, you'll be hitting them naturally. I also keep my Defensive CDs on Hotbar 8 so I don't accidently use them for when I really need them.

I had this issue a while back, playing this game on release is why I bit the bullet and bought a naga at the time, 12 side buttons plus ctrl, shift, alt meant I could use 4 action bars worth of skills without ever moving from wasd.

It's not a problem solver for everyone but I'd be lost without a no. Pad on a mouse.

This doesn't actually work, does it? Due to animation locks, convalescence will only go off once Thrill of Battle is already used.
If you DO want to key them together, you need to put a wait timer on it:

    /ac Thrill of Battle <wait.1>
    /ac Convalescence

Rolled up some video showcasing this problem. My game language is japanese, but it's Thrill of Battle and Convalescence still.
    Without wait
