    Character control issues

I want to start off by saying i've never had this issue before on my computer, so it is not that my computer is not able to play the game, always played FFXIV on it fine.

Anyways, lately while playing my character will suddenly just start running on his own (straight lines, circles, etc.), or will stop moving and I am unable to move him or use any skills (Sometimes he'll just start casting the skill over and over again) but usually resolves itself a few seconds later. It's very frustrating as I am in a static and it makes it hard for me to play optimally while we're raiding. I don't think it is my controller as I have tried with other controllers to no avail and the controller doesnt show signs of disconnecting. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix it?

I am using a Dualshock 3 PS3 controller, wired. But I have also used brand new xbox 360 controllers and had the same issue. It does it no matter what USB port I put it in as well. That's why I am thinking it might not be the controller.

Sounds like its a driver issue then, try updating your drivers for the controllers. Or you could roll them back.

If your going to continue using the DS3 I recommend installing BetterDS3, It's safe to use unlike MotionInJoy and may stabilize it. Dualshock controllers have never really worked properly on windows without 3rd party apps such as BetterDS3 or InputMapper.

That's a problem then, I use better ds3 and I have for a while, yet it started a while after starting using better ds3. Could it be an issue with internet connection or memory? Some people in game mentioned those but they were unsure if that actually could be the case

If it was network lag you would notice everything else lagging as well. It sounds like input lag which could be caused by memory, bad drivers, bad ports, bad cable, etc.

    A few things you can try;
    - Reset the controller, the tiny hole on the back.

    - Unplug the controller, open up device manager, go to View and check show hidden devices and remove all of the HID-compliant game controllers under Human Interface Devices and xbox 360 controller for windows under Xbox 360 Peripherals. Reconnect controller and let it install.

    - Roll back your drivers / check for updates / re-install drivers.

    - use a 2.0 USB port, they are colored black (3.0 are blue)

    - Replace the cable.

    - Buy a DS4 and use Input mapper.

Actually, I've had some of the problems you're describing with the auto-run & being unable to do things briefly. I have a wired XBox 360 Windows controller & have used it since 2.2 with no issues until recently (3.35-ish). It can cause panic if I suddenly auto-run towards something deadly!

It should be noted that it isn't the auto-run feature that is being initiated either, just a weird command from the controller. It started when they introduced support for the Dual Shock system. I've not updated any drives or software for the controller knowingly.

Definately input lag then, you'll notice it more when you spam a load of buttons because of the high amount of inputs its trying to keep up with. Try some of the things I suggested and hopefully you'll find a fix.

Other than those, perhaps a re-install of ffxiv

None of the things you suggested have worked for me so far. When i uninstalled the HID-compliant game controllers and plugged my controller back in there was no installation. Also there are no blue usb ports that I am seeing on my computer, theyre all black. My controller/game is still doing the thing. One thing I have noticed however is that sometimes when I open task manager FFXIV is using up 84% of the cpu (totalling to 99% usage and flashing red), could this be the cuase of this and if so how would I go about fixing this as it has never been a problem before on this computer. I can't find much about it online

That could be the issue then, how much RAM do you have?
