what do you guys think about gender tabs, of course it being optional

So I know I prob have a couple of post up already ha on here but I have wondered this for a while. So I and I believe many other guys that play mmos like making female characters because why not. Ha its nice creating a nice pretty women that can fight the realm ha. The problem with this is sometimes your assumed to be a girl in rl, or you get hit on in game haha which is why I always do flame salute to people its a neutral way of saying hi. So Im just do you think a gender tab would be a good idea like kinda like the new rp icon that came with a recent patch. Something like w for women in real life and m for male in real life and it just be totally optional. But I for one wouldn't mind it at all jw what you guys think about it and if you have been hit on by a gender you may not wanna be hit on by if you think something like this would help. I don't mean to post this as anything offensive just wondering if you guys think it would be a nice little feature

Why not just write that in your player search info? Doesn't need its own feature if you ask me.

I will say this though, I probably can't judge this request without it getting personal, as I think it's well past the point where dudes need to realise how women are treated all the time. Guys wanna make a female character because "girls are much hotter"? Well... turns out that other dude thinks your character is hot stuff as well, you seem to have so much in common. Guys who make female characters for any other reason? Tough shit man... I'd say at least you can see it as a learning experience.

Well i wasn't trying to be sexiest are anything and I do realize that some people would totally be agaisnt this , that's why I said optional , I mean I dont think Ive honestly seen one person that had their gender in their search info. I don't see why if you are ok with it stating your gender would be a bad thing , at all I wasnt tryin to be mean or upset anyone are downplay wat real life women have to go through in life. I just think it would be nice to have as an option because not everyone looks at search info either

I actually run into the opposite issue--female avatars of certain races are frequently assumed to be played by men. As a female Au Ra or a formally a Miqo'te at least half the time I get called "he". It is an MMO these things happen. It doesn't bother me but I do normally correct (or am corrected by) FC and social LS members and that's that. As for a gender tab people can use more than just he/she for their pronouns so I think it is just simpler to correct someone if it is bugging you then to expect SE to be aware enough to include gender-neutral ones. There was months of debate over Eternal Bonding and SE still ended up skating by the issue. Some people also have nameplates turned off so they might not see an icon.

I was just gona say that actually cause Im sure that women in game prob get called dude or guy or something of the sort all the time so it goes both ways. But I still dont know why the idea of something optional like this would be a bad one exactly.

People aren't worried about it being mandatory, nor is it particularly offensive, people are worried about development resources being wasted on something that is already solvable within the game already.

Also, this actually does the opposite of solve your problems, putting a big W next to your name is like painting a target on your head :P

why is everything about developmental issues and funding like did you not see all the pumpkins in the game for halloween and how they put a haunted house event in the game, Like Im sure puttin rp by ur name didnt cost a whole lot of money. And that was something that was just added little things matter , I dont understand why people dont think they do exactly

I was editing my post a bit to clarify why I think it would be complected so I apologize--but basically gender-pronouns aren't a simple thing, and I don't expect that SE will recognize or accommodate that. It is also not an issue in Japanese as pronouns are almost never used.

Not wanting to single out female players is why we don't have in game voice chat as well.

I can totally understand the points you guys are making I guess for me , I wouldnt mind people knowing I was male , so thats why I said optional. I just figured it would be a nice way to let others no without having to correct people all the time. And as far as the women in the game they just wouldnt have to use such feature at all unless they wanted, its more so id say for guys because alot of guys make female characters, and I dont really see any putting hey im a guy in their search info.

I take it OP has never been harassed by other players, like Lambdafish said, your essentially putting a target on yourself, why would anyone want that.
