    Call me crazy but I see no link between a pugilist and magic.
    i read somewhere, i can't remember where tho. all class names were named in japanese first. and when they were named in english they had to find a word that describes what the japanese word meant. one i remember was gladiator the japanese way of saying it is sword user, which if they put in our english version sword user it would just look silly. so they use the latin word gladiator. so with pugilist you have to remember that word was given in translation and not the word used by the japanese, what you need is a dictionary extract from japanese dictionary for the word they use instead of pugilist,

    but after all that i think the elemental magic comes from a monks oneness with the planet

    With the new changes PGL will now be able to have a real stance change.

    Attack stance:Converts your attacks into fire attacks and grants a bonus to attack power. Effect fades upon reuse. MP is continually consumed while effect is active.

    Defensive stance: Converts your attacks into earth attacks and grants a bonus to defense. Effect fades upon reuse. MP is continually consumed while effect is active.

    With these changes I am a happy camper. Now that PGL can finally be the way it was suppose to be.

    I will agree that the mp cost seem daunting, but i think they should add mp Regen to Second wind from traits.

    Add an Trait like spirit healing: 1/4 of the hp healed will also restore that amount of mp. So maybe if we heal 850 hp we get 200 mp back or something.

    I actually see this kind of creative, different and potentially good, let's just wait and see how the abilities work. but it is sure that is not going to be easy to play PUG/MNK, would be a more challenging class.

    Call me crazy but you're trying to apply what a pugilist would do in real life to what a pugilist would do in a fantasy world that is made up. Sure some concepts may be the same (how they fight with their fists) but there is nothing stating that within the world of FFXIV, pugilists cannot use magic.

    When they sat down and decided to create a world with its own rules and ideas different to real life they gave themselves the creative license to not follow a dictionary definition of the word "pugilist". They can take the concept of the term and alter it without it being completely illogical - since we went from punching with fists to punching with fists imbued with magic...not punching with fists to shooting magic lasers.

    Also just to pre-empt it, I know that's not how the guild is currently but don't forget we're looking at a complete world rehaul in v2.0. They arn't going to completely rehaul the classes twice.

    1.21 can't come soon enough! I'm also a little worried about the MP costs but a constant bonus to attack power or defense has to have something to balance it. At the worst, you'll have to just turn it off for a few fights or stand still for a minute. Since I've been playing an iron tempest spamming MRD without any MP gaining abilities this is nothing new I can't handle.

    I did love my spam counters play style but this seems fun. Can we get something addressing of our MP concerns (how high is it? whats our mp replenish like)?
    Also- can we have kicks and elements active at the same time for lots of minus mp lots of damage?

    So far I dont really like what I see unless the MP drain of stances is like 1MP/5secs and the damage - defence - evade boosts is HUGE or really good at worst.
    Ill wait and see.

    Ah yes, the classic "but it's a fantasy game" response. I was waiting for this. Welcome to the discussion.

    To be honest, I really don't care what they do with the PGL class anymore, I've lost all interest in it. As far as I'm concerned they might as well delete it because it's just turning into a melee/magic hybrid that shouldn't even be named what it is.

    Who cares. It takes 24 hours to get a class 1-50 anyways. There will always be something better than a sub-par melee class that requires MP for basic actions lol...

    This is what I don't like either. That sounds like Pugilist/Monk is gonna drain a MASSIVE amount of MP, as in spellcaster levels of MP.

    Pugilists should have a dedicated, no cross class, no requirements like "dodge an attack" or "hit them from the sides for the possibility or getting MP back", straight up MP restore that gives them a LOT of MP back.

    One thing I do like though is that we are now, definitively, no question about it, damage dealers. No tank garbage, straight up DPS. Thank you, SE.

    one thing i noticed, you cant use featherfoot in your magic stances. The effects of these stances are really going to have to be powerfull to justify having to maintain and manage mp, also we will likely only get access to one or none of the cross class mp getting abilities on monk.

    right now it seems like mp management will be major here, but it doesnt seem like we have that many tools for mp management. I dont hate the idea of the mystical warrior monk idea, but it will really really have to be executed very well, i forsee it needing a lot of tweaks in the future
