TRANSFORMER weapons!!!O__O
I'm lvling archer right now, just because it gets bard as a job x)
But really, it's not like archer can't still be a DD, it just got something else, too.

To those saying that bard DD will be good because of buffs, it will always be below a dragoon and any other DD class in the game. Why? Because as you buff your miserable pokes you buff the real DD massive slashes and thrusts.

This is true but remember the real DD massive slashes and thrusts only get better because of the bard so their increase in damage should essentially be considered as the bard's damage. In this sense the bard may (depending on the effectiveness of their songs) cause greater damage to an enemy vicariously through their party members than if they were a warrior or dragoon. Allowing the party members to cast more spells, perform more weaponskills and land more attacks may make up for or even exceed the bard's own lack of direct damage dealing capabilities.
This, however, has little to do with an archer; the bard in FFXI was in such high demand without even attacking at all. If the songs are effective enough I expect that the bard will be a valued member of most parties but not likely as the role of a ranged damage dealer that you would expect from an archer.

I'd rather play archer and have someone else buff me thank you very much. This is true but remember the real DD massive slashes and thrusts only get better because of the bard so their increase in damage should essentially be considered as the bard's damage. Which is how most people who want to play as an archer feels, I imagine. And why I support the notion that the archer should be getting something different as a job. However, if they had to add bard to one of the existing classes then archer is probably be the best fit for it. Also, if archer got a ranged attacking job now (such as sniper, ranger, etc.) and then later received bard as a second job would it cause much fuss?
For now I suppose we can hope that the class reforms make archer more capable in itself so that not having an archer-like job for now isn't such a disappointment.

Yeah. I've actually come to terms with Bard being out Job for now, hopefully they add more jobs per class and Ranger is one of them. But anyway, what happens to Archer before bard comes?
The good thing about Bard is that it's kinda obvious that people will probably want one of us in the party. However, 1.21 is a long way to go; and Archer hopefully will be useful enough people wont reject for parties. My fingers are crossed that the new adjustments in 1.20 will address and fix our broken DD. However, even with a fix, will Archer be penalised as a DD because they need to take into account the buffs from Bard down the road.
That's my biggest worry.
(I really don't want to level Lancer to go to raids. I want to play Archer)

Meh. I don't want to be a buff class. But I'll wait to see what actually happens before I worry too much about it.

I used to be an amazing damage dealing archer, until I took an arrow in the knee.... now I just sing songs and stand around.

I have to admit I was hoping it would be a bit different,
Arc - Thf

archer bard kinda makes me sad ;/ I like the idea of archers using a dagger
Im happy archer is going BARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. cause half the people that play archer only play it cause they have been brain washed from most games that archer is a Ranged OP dd class and thats it......... im glad SE breaks that stereotype and shows archers diversity
2. yea they look gay i agree but its just a game get over it. half of you rolled girl characters anyway....
3. then you have the jump off's that come post on the forums cause they leveled archer because they were op at one point and they liked being op but then when they got nerfed QQ about it cause their to lazy to level another class or to lazy to put the time and dedication into that job to make it relevant
4. also happy because a lot of you will go to another class because you dont want to play bard which leaves a lot more of the real dedicated archers not the jump off's
