The Armoire removes my dye. Can this be changed??

I was going in the armoire to put in my Saints' Wake gloves(dyed jet black) and noticed that my Starlight boots and tunic lost their dye. My tunic was dyed blue and the boots were jet black. Thank goodness I saw this before I put in my gloves or else that would've been wasted money.

But now I'm forced to keep my gloves in the retainer to keep them dyed because the armoire can't keep them dyed for... reasons?

What's with this. Can't this be changed?

I think the devs touched on this some time ago but I cannot fully remember the details. It has something to do with keeping the data on the items all the same (no dyes, 100% durability, and 0% spirit binding) so the data isn't constantly updated on the servers or something.

It takes less data to store something in its original form (no glamour, no dye, 0% spiritbond, 100% durability). If I'd have to take a guess on how the armoire works, you're essentially "destroying" the actual item when storing it, with the server remembering which item was stored (a simple list of 1s and 0s on which items you do or don't have). Taking something out of the armoire would then create the item in its original form.

I can't see them changing this, even if they could, considering how often "server limitations" gets mentioned.

Can it be changed? Yes. But don't count on it for the reasons stated above.

Your item simply gets turned into a 1 when you store it, and a 0 when you take it out. It has no identifying information, only whether you have it or not.

The armoire don't save the gear, only the ID of the gear. Everything else on the gear, like spiritbound or dye, don't get saved.

Pretty sure this is correct. Equipment storage in FFXI worked this same way as well when it came to recharging items with enchantments; the item would reset to its maximum cooldown after removing it from storage to prevent people from potentially spamming the enchantment faster than you were supposed to.

In short, no, don't count on it changing.

Something I do wish they'd change though is give us the ability to store "augmented" AF, even if it still strips dye in the process...

Better yet, they should just scrap the "augmented" AF altogether and just make the original set dyeable. Not actually being "augmented" in any way other than being able to change its color is kind of a joke.

The armoire saves things as a bit if I'm not mistaken, it's pretty much a 0/1 0=no 1=yes. Where no is you don't have the item in armoire and 1 means you do and that you can take it out and make it 0 again. Because of this it's impossible to create a specific color variable because they would no longer be able to just use the simple 1 bit of data to determine if the item is stored or not.

This is how the mog slips worked in FFXI and I"m certain the armoire uses a similar concept.

It's the kind of thing that may well be changed come 4.0 when I expect their to be some important changes to the game engine itself. It is very unlikely it will come before then.
