It helps me to have a few light-hearted come backs ready to help shake off the negativity so you don't get tilted. Like, "Aww you say the sweetest things", or "Thanks but tell me how you REALLY feel," or you can go with just plain old, "Gee, thanks!" Or "Aw shucks!"

You get the picture! Not always the solution but a light hearted response may be enough to defuse the situation. Even if you lose the match, you can pat yourself on the shoulder for handling it with a little more grace than just outright insulting the person back in a vicious circle.
