If you want the challenge of facing the lower floors with no pomanders, you can simply not collect any until you get there, so that challenge is already catered to. I like collecting them all, and deciding when to use them and when not to.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) Zojha's point is that skipping ahead would be a risk/reward scenario. If you skip ahead you miss out on all the pomanders between the one you started on and the one you skipped to thus making things more risky - but if you don't skip you'll have the advantage of having more pomanders when you get to the floor that can be skipped to. So it becomes about whether you want to play safe and not use the skip, or play a bit risky and use the skip to have a faster run (if things don't go awry).
