The Lost Allagan gear would be awesome to have as a replica glamour set, similar to the Sky Pirate and Sky Rat sets. They could be put onto the Online Store for $7-$10 per set if they felt it would detract from the in-game items. I just wish I could mix and match the sets for an awesome glamour.

    Forehead

    Goggles

    Please

    Not sunglasses, goggles.
Not goggles attached to a fugly hat, just goggles.

Seriously. We're approaching 6.0 and I've been wanting this since 2.0.

And yes, I'm aware there are four examples in game.

One is gender locked to male.
One is role locked to Tanks.
Two are job locked, to Mch and Bsm.

None of them do me any good.

I've been looking if anyone has brought it up.
    But if not:
I beg this one so bad...
Omega M and Omega F please! the designs are so great and so are the hairstyles
Plus we have VERY few straight bang hairstyles and that is saddening...

Is there any good reason why we can't have FFXI-style "free-form" armor glamour? I can't be the only one who wants to have more freedom to wear plate armor on a job that normally can't.

By all means, leave job-specific gear sets (like artifact armor) locked as they are now. And leave weapons locked. But for everything else, why can't we be free to glamour whatever armor we want?

Even if I had to level DRG to get access to Maiming gear appearances on a SAM, I would happily do it. I have this really cool-looking Striking glamour with these heavy plate gloves that have gold trim and segmented fingers with clawed tips, and leggings with an awesome cape on them. They look like Maiming/Fending gear, but you can't wear them on a Maiming/Fending job. There's a crafted Maiming chest and crafted Maiming boots from two different sets that would match perfectly, but of course I can't wear them on a Striking job and have to settle for the Replica Allagan Striking armor. Yet there is no logical argument against changing this. Jobs are identified by their weapon styles, stances, and ability animations, not their armor. Tanks can completely ditch their heavy armor in favor of swimsuits or mascot outfits, so why can't other jobs do the reverse and ditch their cloth and leather gear in favor of heavy armor?

I can't be the only one that wants this. Maybe if we make a concerted effort to bring this up with the developers, we can get it changed.

Because SE themselves said "no"? Like it or hate it, the developers made their choice and although as players we can complain about it like you have done or make requests for it to be changed, they are under no obligation to do so (Yoshi stated back in the Beta test that he wants to keep class identity based on appearence, and that means "no heavy armour on mages" - specifically using an example of a heavy melee like WAR dressed as a WHM, because it would 'destroy' the image of a WHM as a healer. And that was even before glamour was even added - he said at the time that a glamour system was planned for the future, which was eventually added in a patch after ARR was launched.).

Also FFXI never had "free-form glamour". FFXI's glamour system Style Lock is Job specific by default as it deactivates and deletes your glamour if you change your Job (and SE even stated that on the FF website), but players found an exploit using macros to use gear for glamour that a Job cannot normally use, and SE just hasn't bothered fixing it, due to the skeleton staff that FFXI's development team now consists of. Just because SE never clamped down on it doesn't mean it was by design, it's an oversight players are abusing, nothing more, and they do so at their own risk. And it needs to be mentioned FFXI's glamour system came after FFXIV's one - for many, many years of FFXI's long life there was no glamour system at all in the game.

Anyway, this is going off the rails so I digress.

Patch notes for FFXI from March 26, 2015, listing the revamp of /lockstyle and the addition of the /lockstyleset command, allowing players to glamour any piece of gear as long as they can equip it on at least one job.

The conditions for which equipment may be used with the style lock functionality have been changed.
If these conditions are fulfilled, players are able to display even equipment that is not usable by their current job. The new conditions for /lockstyle are as follows.
    • The player must be in possession of the piece.
    • The player must fulfill the conditions to equip the piece on at least one job they have acquired.
    • For weapons, the weapon type for main and sub weapons must be the same as those currently equipped.
This was not an exploit but an intended feature introduced by the devs. The only thing that doesn't make this "free-form" is the requirement that the player has to be at least able to equip any piece of gear on one job.

It's also worth noting that the final expansion, Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, had not released at this point and that it would've been very difficult for FFXI's dev staff to have been reduced to a bare minimum at that point.

Well! I feel a might sheepish now... hehe

I definetely stand corrected then (I was completely unaware of that update, and the only update notes about Style Lock I'd read was the ones that announced it's introduction into FFXI). Thank you for that clarification and setting the record straight. Still, one could argue that it's because FFXI is in it's twilight years SE really isn't concerned too much with such nicities as 'Job appearence' consistancy in that game that they're more willing to bend things. FFXIV on the other hand, Yoshi has stated his attitude towards this idea in the past (which I mentioned previously), so I do not see him changing really.

Either way, thank you for clarifying that for me.

    Which class is this?

like maybe instead of giving people asinine All Classes gear they should, i dunno, maybe loosen up restrictions just enough that (some) folks won't just throw their hands up in frustration and just wear stupid shit...?
