Lasthold was a bit of a bear to get to before the revamps.
I feel like a complete idiot for not getting south blood shore when it was easy.

An Aware, Informed, and Critical community is vital for the success of a game.~ John "Totalbiscuit" Bain
About six months ago my former LS put together a group of about 16 people in two parties, and we ran to all of the aetherial gates in the Shroud. Basically, everybody just ran toward the gate in one big group. Some people got aggro, and some died. Those who made it to the aetherial gate touched it to set their home point there (you would have to do this manually now, but that wouldn't be a problem).
With home point now set to the aetherial gate, everyone still alive tracked back to the bodies of the people who had died on the way and raised them. If there were aggroing mobs blocking the way, those with home point set at the node just ran at the mobs, got aggro, and led them out of the way. Of course they would die doing that, but they just hit "return" to go back to the gate. If mobs were still in the way, they continued to run at them over and over until there was an aggro-free area around the bodies of those who hadn't yet made it to the gate. After being raised, those people continued on to the gate. Using this method, everyone got every gate in the Shroud.
It sounds like a mess (and it was), but it was actually kind of fun. (Though I'd much rather have interesting maps with lots of variety to the scenery rather than boring green corridors with unused aetherial gates sprinkled throughout.)
I've been able to solo every camp, almost all athreits, but some are just hell (gridania). Get a pt to help, or get a ls event so that you and your ls can get all aethriets.
All aetherytes clear! Lasthold, Snakemolt and Isle of Umbra, with the help of a LS GLD.
Snakemolt south path has goblins while Isle is filled with Qiqirns...just need to get past 4 crabs at start.
Tyvm, very useful info, hopefully i can get the last 9 gates i need now.I've soloed every last aetherite in the game, it is possible.
Ultimately its done by stacking defense and abilities, and exploiting the tethering of monsters every chance you can.
Rule 1: Best defense possible. If in a group, heavily armored Gladiator is preferable to lead the way, with a potent Conjurer in tow for buffs..
Lead can use: Stoneskin II, Shock Spikes II, Protect II, Shell II, Defender II, Rampart II, Sentinel, Deflection (optional), Quickstride (optional)
Your main task is to look for safe zones where monsters dont follow any further, and you are not gaining aggro from stuff ahead. Obviously a good time to wait on cool-downs and rebuff.
Sometimes, however, this alone is not enough. There may too long of a path, full of stuff that can one-shot you. The solution here is to exploit the tether. Gather and train as many monsters as possible, as far down the path as you can go, till you die. Rinse and repeat. Within 2-3 deaths, you should notice that the monsters will be hanging out near the edge of their own roaming area, so when you run past them, they have the potential of only hitting you one, even zero times, thus allowing you to progress further without dying.
Raptors, Hogs, Efts, Gnats, Drakes: Best results occur (minimum hits dealt to you) when the monster is facing away from you as you run toward/past it. I know some aggro to sound, but my observation stands.
Eyes... ugh, eyes. I like to pop my defensive skills, use emulate/quickstride, and race to the safe zone by the aetherite.
Mobs you can chocobo past, without getting hit even if they aggro.
Eyes, Goobbues, Newts.
These are the fun things that people should do in groups. Chocobo race to get to the point. Get awarded with an achievement!
(last one I attempted solo was maybe east... northeast of Bloodshore on the beach? : was not successful, but whew, that beach was beautiful, screenshots a'hoy! ^_^)
Seems these mobs will be easier to get by come 1.20. I hope they're still a challenge, but I'm also glad that I'll be able to get to South Bloodshore again.
There are some group of people always like to make their exploration...I am a 50 mage, still would open all aetherytes before 1.20. Some of them need LS help...Our LS gather several aetheryte adventures, 2 full party = 16+ people with all jobs, everyone dead 4times+ in average, but it is fun in theses adventures. At least we have somethings to do other than rank up or mogs.
Drakes apparently don't aggro when you walk. Boars do.
Tip from my LS mate.../facepalm on myself.
Common sense dictates I run the heck out of the area when I see something bigger than me with sharp teeth.
