I'm on the fence with this and I'll withhold final judgment until I actually see how Jobs affect the use of classes. Just because they say classes will be optimal for lower manned groups doesn't mean that's how the players will use them.

If a Paladin does tanking better than a Gladiator...well...what else do you really use Gladiator for besides tanking? While I'm sure there are people who would like to throw on some cross class skills to form a makeshift DD, ultimately Paladin can replace Gladiator in tanking situations all around. Same with White Mage replacing Conjurer in any given healing role.

IF the above ends up being the case, sure, phase out classes and I'll be ok since I won't actually lose any levels. (Since 1 Class level = 1 Job level).

But IF the classes still remain useful even with the implementation of jobs, then by all means, keep them.
