I wish they would just phase out classes entirely, if they insist on going with the classic Final Fantasy jobs. If it weren't for all the complications to the lore and story it would bring, I'm sure they would have already done so.

I'm on the fence with this and I'll withhold final judgment until I actually see how Jobs affect the use of classes. Just because they say classes will be optimal for lower manned groups doesn't mean that's how the players will use them.
If a Paladin does tanking better than a Gladiator...well...what else do you really use Gladiator for besides tanking? While I'm sure there are people who would like to throw on some cross class skills to form a makeshift DD, ultimately Paladin can replace Gladiator in tanking situations all around. Same with White Mage replacing Conjurer in any given healing role.
IF the above ends up being the case, sure, phase out classes and I'll be ok since I won't actually lose any levels. (Since 1 Class level = 1 Job level).
But IF the classes still remain useful even with the implementation of jobs, then by all means, keep them.

How about you can't enter to fight hard mode ifrit without jobs? or do dungeon that = 8 players? that mean even if PUG is better DD in the eyes of the players it does not matter and it should really be like that can't enter without a job.I'm on the fence with this and I'll withhold final judgment until I actually see how Jobs affect the use of classes. hmm even tho it would be best for players to use jobs in these instances, i think it should be left up to the players and party leader on what they want in their party.
Cause what if we cant find another DD? and there is a Gladiator seeking? it would be pointless to have 2 paladins, we can invite the second Gladiator and have him equip all the DD skills while the other Gla can be the paladin.
Even if there is 2 Cons seeking, and we need a caster? one con can be a Whm, while other can equip Fire, Ice, and such..
I think it should be left open to keep versatility while making parties.

I actually like the idea of having both. If there were only Jobs I think solo players would complain that they can't solo, and would have to be forced to play a job just to solo ala FFXI.
But also who's to say classes can't be in parties after jobs are introduced. I'm sure there are going to still be a damand for archers since Bard doesn't really have the same role as archer. If there are multiple archers in a PT one can be a bard and the other can stay as DD.
I'm sure players will find a way to solo with jobs.
Having both, means more variety and choice.
