I could not buy any mansions, all those I was watching, none was demolished...being that their owners have not entered since July, others since September and one since more than a year!
I think they should already put ads in each house that is going to demolish automatically so that the other people know :/
Sounds like one of those cases of the owners darting in to save their home ownership while not actually playing. I'm hoping the new wards they're making have a much higher number of large plots if they aren't completely instanced (outside & inside single house). The competition for mansions is getting rather intense (although on most servers just getting any house can be a problem).I could not buy any mansions, all those I was watching, none was demolished...being that their owners have not entered since July, others since September and one since more than a year!

The way the demolition system is currently set up, there's no way for the system to know in advance which houses will be demolished. In order to identify the plots about to be back up for sale, there would have to be a delay added in. In that scenario: on one date, the previous owner would lose the house and it's demolished, and several days later, the plot would go back up for sale. That would allow the system to identify the date it'll be available during that interval in between. (Perhaps in the housing/wards window where it currently says either the owner or price, it could have a date or countdown timer for plots neither owned nor for sale, but identifying when they will be for sale.)
Having such a delay, not only on abandoned reclaimed plots, but also relinquished ones, would also put an end to the house selling (and associated hoarding) that isn't supposed to be allowed (but many people seem to get away with). People aren't likely to pay someone to know when a house is relinquished, if that same information is given to everyone on the server who cares to look.
Some people might be annoyed by the extra delay, or by forcing plots to remain empty for a while on a server where they're in demand, but I think the pros would outweigh the cons.
I remember when the housing system first came out, it was the small ones that were the most in demand and selling out way too fast. I guess several patches and an expansion later, the economy has grown enough that a lot more players can afford the large ones, so demand has shifted upwards. Hopefully SE will take that fact into account when designing the new housing area.I'm hoping the new wards they're making have a much higher number of large plots if they aren't completely instanced (outside & inside single house). It was three things really. First, lot prices dropped to within reach of more players from the original prices. Second, once all those were bought up there was a long period of time where players had nothing to spend gil on so they hoarded it (as you've stated). Third, and I don't agree with this one, they dropped the price of housing to be easily within reach. Personally I could easily hoard about a dozen smalls at the current price. That's just dumb.I remember when the housing system first came out, it was the small ones that were the most in demand and selling out way too fast.
