Palace of the Dead and Dark Knight (spoilers)

I haven't completed Floors 101-200 of Palace of the Dead, but I watched a twitch stream of a team completing it, and noticed something interesting on the Firecrest (the stone at the end you touch to finish the dungeon):

Which, to me, oddly reminds me of this:

Any thoughts? Is there something I don't know about the Palace of the Dead, and perhaps the power of darkness? Or is this more likely to simply be a reused asset?

I can't find a better picture, but if you zoom in you can see that the Fireseal (just a different name for Firecrest) has the same symbol. Its coincidence most likely.

THAT SAID, we do have people who worked on Tactics Ogre working on this game. Its possible they based the DRK soul crystal design on the Firecrest while also not actually having them tie in together. Or maybe they do and this is a hint to things that might come in the future.

I've been trying to piece this together since you asked and I feel like I have most of the pieces but I can't put them together. The Crest of Fire was from Tactics Ogre (like much of Palace of the Dead, including ... the Palace of the Dead). The only unique dragoon in that game was Jeunan, who sought death as redemption for past misdeeds but I don't remember him ever actually getting it.

The likeness the symbol bears to the DRK symbol is interesting, though I can't say for sure if it's a coincidence. I'll keep digging.

If anyone has a better understanding of Tactics Ogre, help me out here!

(The crystal pumpkin is from that game, as well, by the way.)

Ok, I know how this looks, but I was googling references to draw the Firecrest and it brought me here, I swear.

It's 100% a coincidence. The Firecrest doesn't have a canonical wielder (well, kinda, but he's such a non-entity that there's only one reference to him and it's in the damned item description for the Fireseal): it can be found by any of the protagonists but its only implied use was in a theory about Denam finding it and using its powers in conjunction with the Tarot to time travel, since the game mentions Deman has been seen travelling with copies of the same people, or people who are suposed to be dead.

This is, however, a tongue-in-cheek way to explain the Wheel of Fortune system. Since there haven't been any sequels that take place after Tactics Ogre, and the Wheel of Fortune is exclusive to the PSP and Reborn remasters, it's a theory on shaky grounds (also, you don't need to find the Firecrest to access the WoF, it unlocks after you beat Ch.4).

Heck, the protagonist who can get the Firecrest the easiest is explicitly one who doesn't have it canonically because he later shows up in another game!
